The future of Funny Pictures and Videos

In 2024, this section only had 10 threads which were replied to... all of which were threads created years ago apart from 2 new threads by the same user, neither of which received any replies (apart from by themself!)

So, I'm not sure this place justifies its own section anymore. You tell me... I'm putting it to a vote.

The options are:

• remain here as it is in its current form (but please explain why)
• be moved as a sub-category of FreeOnes Talk
• maybe just even become part of Talk without having its own section
• some other idea I haven't thought of (please suggest)

I get the impression that this is just a section that most people just gloss over and not actually click into a great deal, so if it was moved inside Talk for example it might actually get more views and/or participation.

But assuming there are only 8 threads which are actively being replied to (give or take) then I think those threads could be relocated over to Talk without incident unless anyone can tell me otherwise.

The point is Supa no fucker apart from a select few look at this section so it's more of a case of putting it somewhere where it's going to be looked at otherwise it may as well not exist.

This section gets very few posts, and even when someone does post it rarely gets any interaction, either because it's shit or nobody is looking at it... relatively speaking.

Y'know... this poll has only got 3 votes... that suggests to me in itself that something could've been done without prior consultation and there would have been little backlash.

If it is moved to a sub-section within Talk, it will retain its name and posts... and is completely reversible so people shouldn't look upon it as something that can't be gone back on. If it gets moved, you might find that it all of a sudden starts getting more interaction. If we don't try, we won't find out.

But seeing as you mention it, why does it even need to have the distinction of "pictures and videos"? Why can't it just be "Funny stuff"? Then a title like that really will be more suiting to the Talk section and allows for a broader range of subjects.

What does this mean?

Just so all three of you reading this thread know where I stand, my view is this section doesn't need to exist at all and everything should be moved into FreeOnes Talk. So if there's anyone lurking and having any strong feelings on the subject, they should speak up asap before we take action.

I'm afraid it isn't because I could easily have said what Steve said which was essentially "what?"

It's nothing to do with bandwith or server costs. It's just cutting out the need to scroll down past a section which nobody looks at.

The forum as a whole is under review and slowly undergoing changes, and this is just one of a few that probably doesn't need to be there anymore unless anyone can make a compelling argument. But again, it's not getting rid of the threads which are there - it is just moving them. There's no harm in that as far as I can see.

Like I said from the outset - this section had 10 active threads in the whole of 2024. If I had moved them to Talk instead of creating this thread to ask first, I honestly doubt anyone would've noticed because those who were subscribed/watching those threads would still see when new posts were made and they wouldn't have looked out of place for anyone who may have been seeing them for the first time in Talk.

So the good news is that this section is now having record-breaking amounts of posts in one day but the bad news is nobody understands what anyone is saying to each other!

Next question I think of, will it go like the Niche section, where we get a heap of subsections, which help channeling similar threads, yet... instead of scrolling past threads or sections here, we get new sections to scroll past or fork through to fnd the same threads?

I see why little traffic or a big sections for a little group is a bit much, I might just have had some stressfull days and I guess the buildup to this decisions just completely went over my head.

I don't understand what's so difficult to understand here! Nobody posts in this section. It's not 2008 anymore. This section is more or less dead. Where is the argument for keeping it? Because I don't see it.

It's not about 'needing drama' (wtf is that about), it's about making the board more functional and modernising it. Something that has seemingly never happened. If we, say, moved all these threads into a different forum then they would fall into chronological place and most, that haven't been posted in for months on end, will disappear out of view.

So, as it stands... nobody objects to the proposals apart from one person who seems to be opposed to it but cannot actually explain why.

Currently, it is a toss up between moving the threads to Talk or moving them into there as a sub-section. I'd call it just "Funny" or "Funny stuff", personally... so if anyone has a better idea, let us know. Sounds like Steve is leaning towards the no sub-section at all option but we haven't exactly been inundated with votes in the poll.

As for the niche section, Supa - unlike funny pics/vids, it is a part of the forum which gets hundreds of posts a day & hundreds of thousands per year and needed some organization. This was also a consultation process and people have been given the opportunity to get involved and state their views from day one and we've received no opposition to it, only praise. Given the amount of attention that section gets, we'd have heard about it by now if somebody had an issue with it. So if you have an issue with it, you'll need to do a better job of explaining what it is than you have with this one.

In a last-ditch attempt to demonstrate to you just how inactive this particular section has become, a setting has been turned on which only displays the threads which have been replied to in the last 12 months. Notice how there are only 12 threads? ...and when you factor in that one of them is this sticky and the other is a redirect, it is a net 10 threads in the past year.

This is why we think moving said threads over to Talk is no big deal.

@The Identifier asked for some feedback. You made a comment about removing a thread and breaking the chain, which I still don't understand and you still haven't clarified. You then claim we're doing this for "drama", which I also don't understand.

You've clearly got objections to us junking this forum - we just want to know what they are! Why are we talking in riddles here? Tell us why you think we should keep this section. Your opinion is of interest to us as a veteran of the board and a former mod.
