The entire student loan argument is quite twisted. Who are the good actors?

Corporations use bankruptcy to wipe out their contractual obligations. They even use bankruptcy to escape product liability lawsuits.

Universities overcharge because they know loans are available. Their incentive is to get as much of the pie as possible.

Lenders have loan guarantees to reduce or eliminate the risk of default.

Students typically want to help themselves. For this privilege they are subjects to predatory lenders and greedy institutions. For this, we want to continue the punishing of students who made bad choices?

What about parents who let their **** take out the loans?

For the record, I am not a proponent of waiving all debt. Allowing legal means - bankruptcy - for relief seems practical to me.
 
The question then becomes, who, and how? I think it's pretty unreasonable to cancel debt for a guy with $100,000, but has become a doctor. Just like you wouldn't think it's fair for a debt cancellation, because the grad wants a BMW, instead of a Chevy, but can't afford one, because of his loans. I have no proof, but I would put forth the opinion that, many of the people complaining about student debt, because they aren't getting the instant gratification they thought they would, when they got their first "real job". By that I mean, they likely thought that when they were in that position, they would now buy a nice house, and a fancy car, but reality sets in, when they have to rent, and drive a pre-owned Ford. The other thing is, I find it hard to feel bad for someone that followed a degree, that led to no opportunities, because what they studied, and got a degree in, is becoming obsolete, or so over competitive you need to be in the top 5% of all degree holders. I mean lets face it, you don't study marine biology, and hope to find gainful employment, in South Dakota.
 
I am conflicted on the subject, since my personal experience taints my opinion. As stated above: waiving debt for all borrowers doesn't seem practical; shaming students isn't the right course; and the higher-ed system has many flaws.

Over the past 7 years I have gotten a first-class education in the system (3 students and 3 public universities with the final one just graduated). If you are gainfully employed, financial aid is quite limited for your students. So, cash is king! [It was covered here: Premium Link Upgrade ]

Long-time adviser to both Dems and Reps David Gergen says it well here:

“We’ve never seen anything like that before. And frankly, I think it’s a real risk. You know, I just turned 80, and I can just tell you John, you lose a step. Your judgment is not quite as clear as it was. There’s a variety of other things you can’t do much about and to put somebody in that office with those kinds of vulnerabilities and giving them four years, we don’t know where things will go.”

Time to pass the torch.
 
Most presidents in history haven't done much, unless they get a second term, or at least it appears that way to me, I shouldn't speak for others, but god or bad accomplishments, always seem to take 5 or 6 years.
 
I find it wise that Presidents have to be older than 35 years ( Premium Link Upgrade )

But I agree there should be a cap, 80 is just ******** with ****** nature. Make it 70 years maximum. That should work
 
The retirement age is mid-sixties, 70 may be pushing it.

I was hoping Joe Biden would stay out of the 2020 race because I didn't think he could win, but he really turned out to be the right person at the right time. Is his time over? I don't know, maybe. If Democrats hold onto their majorities in congress that would be great, it would be better if they also gained a filibuster proof majority in the senate. If he has a congress to work with in the second half of his first term he would easily get re-elected.
 
If Biden loses the next election it will be a reminder of the dangers of getting scared, or bought off by corruption and donors, and settling for the "electable" candidate instead of the right person who's the best when that other person could have won. It's partly reasons like that the Democrats are in the trouble they are in now. When the left base becomes apathetic and doesn't go to the polls because Biden and the Democratic party have done jack squat and have did nothing to fight for people like them they can remember it just too important for them to screw Bernie over and that outcome was preferable to them.

There is only so many times the "lesser of two evils" tactic or the "vote blue no matter who" tactic or the "no, really truly, this is the most important election of our lifetimes, and yes I know we say this every election now" tactic can work when **** just doesn't get done, and people aren't even trying very hard to do anything. The status quo is slowly ******* the majority of people in this country, and people's lives need to be made better so they don't fall into the clutches of charlatan demagogues that tell people comforting lies they want to hear.
 
Politics is like wrestling as there are all kinda fun gimmicks politicians try to get over in front of the marks.

He is still not Donald J Trump! I would not consider myself part of the 36. Trump wouldn't be doing much better at this point either. Economic cycles are typically independent of the executive.

Plus, Trump blamed everything on Obama for 4 years. Biden should just blame Trump.

I don't understand Republicans, and when I try to get them to explain things they just tell me I'm a snowflake liberal, kinda like that video Dino posted with Steven Chowder going off on an "SJW". I mean FR, what's the opposite of an SJW, a Status Quo Warrior? I don't know I'm just trying to understand that ****.

You mean other than he's a corporate weakling that does nothing while our country's institutions, freedoms, and democratic norms face existential crisis from the Republicans?

He has the care, will to act, and fortitude of a mummified mouse that's been dead a year. If he had a fiddle he would play it as the country burns.

To be fair that's not a new criticism. He's been that way from day 1 of his presidency.
