The best American patriotic song

My favorite patriotic song is "America" aka "My Country 'tis of Thee"....I think it's a great anthem that should be sung at sporting events and Olympic events by the fans to charge up our athletes. This song should be the anthem of the Men's and Women's National Soccer teams for sure...

My favorite National anthem other than Star Spangled...is "La Marseillaise" (France)..the greatest anthem in Europe...

Lee Greenwood - God Bless The USA
Bruce Springsteen-Born In The U.S.A.
The Star-Spangled Banner
God Bless America- as sung by Kate Smith
Some Gave All- Billy Ray Cyrus; if you want something more modern
I LOVED to hear Ray Charles sing America the Beautiful!!!
My favorite patriotic song is "America" aka "My Country 'tis of Thee"
So many great choices already named!!! The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is this favorite of mine:

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
I find it ironic that a song that is so critical to the core of the US and its military and foreign policy and leaders is still mentioned as a patriotic song. That's why I admire the brilliance of Bruce.

I also like what Mellencamp does THESE days, now that he is older and wiser.

That's what makes the song so patriotic....love of country, not love of government.

Oh, and John Mellencamp is AWESOME.

That's some fine way to talk! Do you kiss your momma with that mouth?

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I hadn't looked at this thread in weeks.

The reason why I say he's an asshole is based on the only time I've worked a John Mellonhead show. At the end of the night, stagehands usually wait offstage for the show to be over so they can tear down the stage, pack it up, and go home. 99.999% of the stagehands I've ever known could give a rat's ass less for interacting with the performers (with the notable exception of the douche bag who wanted to work as a stagehand just so he could talk to artists in real life. On a day when we were setting up for a Tool show, he disobeyed the rule that not only everyone knows, but it was explicitly told to us at the beginning of the day, that you don't go near the artist dressing rooms and bullshit with them. He waited outside of Maynard's dressing room until he came out, and talked to Maynard, who got freaked out, and nearly caused the whole show to be canceled). On the night of Mellonhead, we were all standing around waiting for the show to end, like we always do. When there were 2 songs left, Mellonhead's head of security went over and told all of us that we had to move at least 25 feet back because the artist would be coming through in a minute, and that he didn't want us to talk to him, didn't want us to look at him, or to even know who he was. Basically, we were all made to go stand as far from the stage as was possible and to look away from the stage until we were told it was safe to look. I looked up when we were told it was ok, which was only about 10 seconds after the end of the show, and I saw the head of tour security, the head of local security, the tour manager, and two or three other people escorting a person who was wearing a trenchcoat over his head back to the dressing room. What the fuck? Stagehands are there because it's our job, not because we're fans who wait for the artist to get off the stage so we can flock him for an autograph. The whole thing was really insulting to all of us there.

That's why I say John Mellonhead's an asshole.
