The 10 most historically inaccurate movies

Nearly all movies dealing with historic subjects change some aspect of the story. To make the movie more cinematic.

Apart from battles most history, no matter how interesting it seems on the page is probably not going to be interesting on the eye. Especially when you are trying to impress someone who knows nothing about the subject. So the writer or director or whoever will stick a love story or a revenge story or both into the story to try to build excitement.

It's quite common.

I would have ad : Joan of Arc (by Luc Besso, starring Milla Jovovich, John Malkovitch, Faye Dunaway and Dustion Hoffman).

Besson's Joan is just some kind of anti-english fanatic young girl, deeply shocked after seeing her sister being raped and savagely killed by english-allied french soldiers during a raid on her village, mystic since she was a kid (there's a scene in wish she goes to the church while th priest is out and she drink the wine, because was refused eurcharisty because she was too young, wich is pure LIE).

It's called a creative license. :hatsoff:

3. 10,000 BC,
6. Apocalypto

So, the Times Online is the history authority now? :D

Were they there? No...

No one has the complete history of animals or anything. So, the times is using a blanket statement and acting like they know, when they don't.

The Mayans were so intelligent they couldn't predict their own demise or stop it.

Also, they were cannibals. Homosexuality in Mexico

Nearly all Jack the Ripper films are totally made up rubbish.

Daft thing is that Jack the Ripper doesn't need any "glamming up". It's the greatest murder mystery ever.

In a similar situation to those (although technically it can’t be proven to be historically inaccurate.) I remember a movie about Noah's Ark where the people that made it just decided to change some things about it.

I refuse to watch 10,000 BC based upon the fact that I have zero interest in watching what life might have been like back then.

Lord of the Rings

Totally true

Do Back to the Future III or Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure count? :p

History being boring may or may not be debatable, but the PACING of history almost assuredly is and would not work played out as such as a movie...Not that I'm making excuses for any of the listed movies or anything. Just sayin.

Are you inferring that because there was some gayness going on in the Yucatan that means they were cannibals?

They forgot to mention 300.
- Spartans marched to war in full armor, not in Speedos and capes.
- Women were not allowed to be part of government.
- Xerxes was NOT a metrosexual Cirque du Soleil reject.

I think the difference with that is they didn't hide the fact the movie came out of a comic book, and there were things in it that even the dumbest of people could have figured out that it didn't really happen. Unlike the movies on the list, they weren't pretending to be historically accurate and it was obvious.
