Many people believe that in 2050, if birth and immigration rates do what experts expect them to, white folk will become a minority in the United States. This caused the so-totally-not-racist-and-how-dare-you-even-suggest-as-much Pat Buchanan a shiver of fear, tinged with a hint of nostalgia:

We were one nation, one people. We worshipped the same God, spoke the same English language, studied American history and English literature, honored the same heroes, read the same books, watched the same TV shows, went to the same movies …

That never happened in reality, of course.

But … that America is now gone forever…. In 2050, there will be three times as many people living here as in 1960 – 420 million. White Americans will be a minority, 49 percent, and falling… By countries of origin, America will be a Third World nation.

Oh, cry for the European Americans! Or don't -- Pat's numbers don't include white people of "Hispanic heritage." When you factor those white folks in, 74 percent of the population will remain pasty in 2050, down just six points from today.

Eh, I think the vast majority of people under 40 or so could care less about the ethnic makeup of the country, right-wing or no. My grandpops used to be worried about it, but we reminded him he would be long dead before any "non-white majority" comes to pass. As for the Aryan pride/separatist types, they are removing themselves from the gene pool in increasing numbers, and they won't be missed.

Non of them scare me...but most of them do piss me off. Of course, most everything pisses me off. I will say this, I do agree that in most cases, and on both sides, scare tactics are used, and usually for the sole purpose of fund raising, but still, there is absolutely nothing wrong with keeping a close, watchful eye on the powers that be, simply because they are shady, and will do their best to sneak things past the American public. It's hard to have faith in your leaders, when they have continually proven, their ineptitude, and lack of trustworthiness.

The US Census counts Hispanics as "White", and counts them as an ethnic group, not a racial group. Middle-Easterners also don't have a separate racial category on the US Census.

That is definitely true. If you listen to some of the language used to describe someone like Nancy Pelosi or Barbara Boxer vs Sara Palin it really shows itself. Liberals may refer to Palin as dumb but I get really annoyed when people refer to Pelosi or Boxer as a cunt or bitch. I am sure a quick search around here would illustrate it nicely if you don't believe this idea.

Apparently no one bothered to read my post. It has nothing to do with Spain and Portugal, which would make up a tiny percentage of the US population. People of Mexican and Latin American heritage count as a "white person of Hispanic heritage" according to the US Census. There is no "Hispanic" race on the US Census form, Hispanics and Middle-Easterners are all counted as "white" on the US Census form. I like the list as a whole, but the person who wrote it doesn't understand how the census operates.

The one about the pending gun control seems like the reverse situation with abortion. The Wackoes fear that the Dems and the "Obama Reich" are trying to sneak around and chip away at the 2nd Amendment meanwhile the Wackoes want to sneak around and chip away Abortion rights. :dunno:

He got more of the white male vote than any Democrat since Carter.

He won among both the highest income voters and the lowest income.
Also among the most educated and the least.

He got 95% of the black vote, but black voter turnout only increased by 2% over 2004, when Kerry got 88% of the black vote.

He won because the economy cratered not long before the election, and because the failures of the Bush administration tainted the GOP.

Then again, the following could be added to the list: black people in general, asians, the Jewish, Canadians, Europeans, Central and South Americans, their own shadows, bears, education, renewable energy, falling gas prices, rising gas prices, static gas prices, the media, the internets, taxes, having their entitlements paid for by taxes taken away, people they don't like having the same access to guns they have, aliens from space, ghosts, porn, having their porn taken away, teens, Hollywood, rap, science, research, the return of jesus, finding out that jesus will never return and hell.
