Tara Conner Criticized for Underaged Drinking - Too Harsh IMO

Aegis gets it...Torre82min is missing the point. Do you not understand how the business world works?

This girl is Miss USA 24-7-365. THAT'S THE JOB SHE SIGNED UP FOR. There is NO time off, no off-season. She is supposed to smile, look pretty, keep her weight in check, ask permission to cut her hair, show up for appearances, sign autographs, eat, sleep and shit Miss U.S.A for one year. Then she hands the title off to someone else and she can use her "ex-Miss U.S.A." status to further her career. Even then I am sure she has to sign waivers saying she will always uphold the image of Miss USA, even after her reign is over or be sued.

In exchange, she gets all the benefits.

As far as the title meaning nothing, that is your opinion only. It means millions of dollars in advertising, sponsorships and merchandising. I personally don't care about the title but it is big business and means alot to more people than you think.

The Miss USA hypocrisy

The big news story in Kentucky over the weekend was the Miss USA controversy. Apparently Kentucky's own Tara Conner, Miss USA, had been spending an inordinate amount of time in New York City partying like it was 1999. The frivolity reached a fever pitch, at which point Donald Trump gave serious consideration to "stripping" Ms. Conner of her title.

Trump felt that Miss USA was a representative of the American woman, and that Ms. Conner was not acting in an entirely appropriate role model type fashion. In fact, it was rumored, Trump was ready to kick Ms. Conner out of her swanky Trump digs and send her packing.

A crisis was averted when Trump gave the wayward role model a second chance. Ms. Conner got her scecond chance by agreeing to enroll in some sort of rehab program.

All of which raises the question, how was Ms. Conner not acting as a role model? I mean, have you seen network televsion lately, or read People magazine or watched Entertainment Tonight?. Our culture is awash with young women who (ahem) party all the time. The American pop culture revels in indiscrimate sex, drugs, alchoholic binges and late night club hopping.

What Ms. Conner was doing seems to be in complete sync with what our culture expects of our young women. If Trump, who is an icon of our pop culture, expected Miss USA to act any differently, he was a hypocrite. So is anyone who criticized Ms. Conner but indulges in the very culture she emulated.

Miss USA is supposed to represent the USA. A country where she competes in ratings.. and against other so-called *Role Models* on TV like MTV's the real world, My sweet sixteen and other reality shows and entertainment TV that bombards with images of young debutantes having materialistic lives with indiscriminate sex like the majority of sluts we all are. The contest has an aura of obsolete and outdated VICTORIAN morals coded into the rules. This is NOT the 18th century. This.. is the slothful, lazy society we're living in today and maybe it offends you that 1950s America and its pageant of purity is at the forefront of a reality you dont like.

Where 9 of every 10 people have premarital sex.

Where Donald Trump passes as a JUDGE for others.

Where 60% of High Schoolers have openly admitted to underage drinking.

"In exchange, she gets all the benefits"

Business? Perhaps ratings for the pageant, itself. But the majority of any funds gathered during their tenure as Miss USA goes to non-profit organizations and charities. Contestants are lucky to scratch very far into the double-digit millions during that year of fundraising. As far as memory recalls, the most money ever raised was 30ish mil. during an earlier miss USA reign.

"As far as the title meaning nothing, that is your opinion only" and calling it big business is a joke. A startup company can make more money in a year than she 'fundraises'. Big business deals in billions, not millions. There are few pictures of Tara at your local HBC section. Youll find the other social pariah's out in full force. Lohan, Hilton, Spears. You'll find TRUE big business operating under the likes of Maybelline and Mascara with true stars from hollywood and the like. It is the opinion of Trump that miss USA is supposed to be the typical American role model. Well.. she is. Even further, if she was truly violating a tangible, enforced law.. she would be decrowned. She was not. I dont think ~you~ understand that this media exposure is bringing more business to their doorstep! lol They kept her on because they have plausible denial and an interest in their little exploited sex-object, now. Big fake tits and she likes booze. Males 12-25 now have a vested interest in miss USA. As a role model she succeeds right alongside all the other debutantes. What.. I say what.. is so wrong with this typical American female?

Torre82min, can you tell me who wrote the first part of your reply?

"The contest has an aura of obsolete and outdated VICTORIAN morals coded into the rules. This is NOT the 18th century. "

Thanks for confirming my point: this is your opinion. Regardless of what you think of the rules, they are the RULES. Right, wrong or indifferent. And she violated them.

Frankly, all you other blah, blah, blah makes my head hurt trying to sift thru it. But it does bother me that you seem to condone your daughter's/niece's/whatever's idolization of the likes of Paris/Lindsay/Britney. With any luck she might get her own page on Freeones.

Any pictures of her pantyless cooch as she exits a limo? Any upskirt shots of her beaver or a nipple slip anywhere to be found? From what I can see lately, breast implants are all the rage, bisexuality is big, and cocaine is making a huge comeback and I think Miss USA would be an excellent spokesmodel for all three.

Exactly. You going to tell me that all these assholes crying about this never had a drink while they were in high school BEFORE the age of 21? Bullshit, they all need to get a fuckin life and worry about more important things.

Exactly. I wonder if she does anal? :dunno:

Man you guys are selling this gal short. I'm not against ANY amount of partying and drug use but the whole story isn't being told here. She was also accused of snorting blow, making out with Ms. Teen USA, and sneaking a veritable plethora of men up into the apartment. She's soooo much hotter than you guys make her sound.

Well, the story the media focused on was drinking. Hard drugs I could completely understand as the source for a scandal. Focusing on one persons underage drinking is redundant.

I like what Trump said about Jabba, I mean Rosie O'Donnell.

LOL, I saw that on the news today as well. He's pretty harsh, but quite accurate.

By the way, the reason American drinking laws are so enforced are because we drive around more than anyone, so it affects us the most. I can understand why the drinking laws are there. However, since underage drinking is so prevalent and common, I don't think it should have the stigma attached of being such a terrible thing to do. The laws keep people from dying in car crashes, however the stigma for drinking but not driving is blown out of proportion; just like the use of Mary Jane.

Too true. Even without the title, she's the absolute Miss USA. The epitome of 'Girls Gone Wild'! And it is pretty strange that the lezzy kissing and hard drugs fell by the wayside against.. alcohol? :sighs: Rack up a new WTF moment.

Geez, debating with dangerousD is like trying to talk to my Aunt. "But thats just an opinion!" Yes, thats what we're throwing at each other when we argue our points. Argue the point and not the manner or medium in which we mince words. Heh, especially since youre exhibiting an opinion, too.

But it does bother me that you seem to condone your daughter's/niece's/whatever's idolization of the likes of Paris/Lindsay/Britney. With any luck she might get her own page on Freeones.

Words were not spoken condoning it. Whether I accept it or not.. they're going to grace covers and be on the news. Thats the overall point. She is but a small player in the role models of young girls.

Her own page on FreeOnes? This isnt the (porn)board to lay out your unfavorable opinion of pornstars, brother.

Trump has his expectations, I don't agree with him, but he does.
At the same time, she is a role model who some women look up to.

Frankly, I've really not given a shit about the contest since that one Miss America gained weight, started looking hot, and then Trumpy got grumpy about it.
