system recovery: lost everything

I think Ifound about 75% of my stuff, but about 25% of those are damaged.
that sounds about right, although it all depends on the original OS size plus how much data you had. But glad you got some of it,[/QUOTE]

Re: Backup to DVD-R

Super Multiformat DVD-RAM/-R/RW/+R/+RW drives are $20. DVD-R discs are dimes. You can fit 4.7GiB (4.35GB) on a single DVD.

Have a nice day ... ;)

Honestly, probably the cheapest and most recommended option to backup your files. Just create a little backup jobbie with the software that often comes with the drives, drop in a blank DVD-R every Saturday night or so, and kick it off.

I don't know why I've never considered that. I've always looked at my DVD's as "movie discs" to save my film projects on :dunno:

Try making a new profile. I accidentally used a system restore disc on an old computer and I thought I lost all my files. I just had to make a new profile and went into my original profile and there were all my files. Nothing is deleted like it was said earlier. Making a new profile is the way I used and it worked for me.

Sometimes, like if your system goes bluescreen due to a virus or other corrupting of you hard drive, necessitating a reformat of your hard drive, you cannot reload what you copied. This is because you copied the virus onto the disk. This means everything is lost. Antivrus software offer backups, at a price, but for a whole year while you use them. This is only if you need to reformat though, that you may not be able to reload everything yourself. G.hos.t will help in the future. Storing stuff in cyberspace.

zero assumption recovery software works extremely well for recovery of images movies etc. have used it several times to recover these type files. unbelievably good. try it b4 you do anything else. get a portable harddrive and keep it on it. run it from the portable. absolutly fantastic. NO I DO NOT OWN OR GET PAID BY THEM FOR ANYTHING. this is a user who is thrilled with it. takes a little doing to learn but can do it time and again till you get what you want.:nanner:
