Tax evasion from the year 2000? I thought they only go back 7 years - something is up with this story, or the tax man is just harassing her for being a porn star...

Depends on what sort of evasion happened. If she failed to file her taxes at all, there is no statute of limitation. The IRS could have gone after her 10 years from now.

For most everything else, fudging taxes, paying taxes if you owe, false return, etc the statute is 6 years from the time the return was submitted.

Who knew evading hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes was illegal and would upset the government? (Ok, as long as your not some ultra rich person with a tax shelter I guess. Then the government lets you get away with it, or even allows it.)

To be honest I’m surprised more of the stars aren’t in trouble for it. If the government wanted to go after them it would be the easiest method. Unlike obscenity or anything like that nobody is going to question the non-legitimacy of tax evasion or bringing in profits from illegal activities.

:cussing:I already am supporting her with my tax dollars. Now she can watch cable that I can't afford. Oh yeah, and get a degree.

How is she running a website from the joint?

I am just wondering what would happen when she comes out. Will she be able to maintain her hot body in prison? Will people continue to buy her DVDs? Will the porn industry welcome her? .........Anybody any thoughts?

But I thought all of those right-wing nut jobs said we didn't have to pay income taxes? :dunno:

Understandably confusing...you must mean those LeftWing nutjobs like Tim Geitner, Tom Daschele, Nancy Killefer...and the rest of the appointees found to be tax cheats. Or married to one...or a closet lobbyist...hard to tell a nutjob from one party to the next.

Anyway, Janine will be back amongst us in no time, maybe with some new Jailhouse Tattoos...and lots of free publicity.

Once she gets a workable sum and pays it off, someone should put a good word for her with Obama and have her assigned to the Treasury or another department. ;)

And maybe a new career as a Cabinet member!

She'd be so much hotter if she didn't have tats covering her arm and shoulder. Sorry but I am not a tats person.

She'll get no sympathy from me, I'm sure during her career she was making more money than most people, why should she get away with not paying her tax?

The issue is the Fed/IRS waited for 7 years before they came after you.

She sure made a ton of money but also spent most of those.

IRS wanted to wait until she bought a house/condo and had a "BIG SAVING" then they came after her and confiscated everything and put her in jail.

She only had a month or so left. So she should do some soul searching and leave this kind of business. She will be in house arrest but can do much more.

Most of '80 stars were charged with tax evasion and had to pay the government back. So this is a norm. It is really not bad going to women Federal prison. That's the only way to slow her down and make her "think" she made a mistake.

The facts are Janine owed $79,136 on the day she was sentenced , keep in mind she isn't a high school grad ,and it was for a 8 year period , this crime was a passive one ( she didn't have a good accountant or any ) She was convicted of a misdemeanor not a felony, she's the only inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution at Victorville’s Medium Security serving time on a misdemeanor,...What kind of ex is Jesse James for not helping out the mother of his 5 year old daughter? , his net worth is $200+ million ( he made $20 million + on merchandise sales alone last year) and Since Janine was sentenced on December 30th, four major administration appointees have admitted they failed to pay their taxes! First was Commerce Secretary nominee Bill Richardson, who actually “was under investigation by a grand jury for pay-to-play kickback schemes” … and we doubt he declared that income! His punishment? Fading away back to being the Governor of New Mexico {the Guv with Luv Handles}. Next, Treasury designate Tim Geithner—the “brilliant” banker asked to ease our economic crisis had to repay $64,849 to the Internal Revenue Service for a six-year period from 2001-2006, but somehow “was not fined for late payment.” He was then easily confirmed to oversee the I.R.S.!! Third, former Finance and Ethics Committee scion of the Senate, Tom Daschle, left a well-paid position at the Center for American Progress {and wishful thinking} to accept a job as Secretary of Health and Human Services…only to withdraw “after having failed to pay $140,167 for three years of owed taxes and interest,” though not as yet “thousands of dollars in additional unpaid taxes” for the use of a lobbyist’s private car and driver. As the tax auditors might say: “Paying back’s a bitch!” Which brings us to notable Nancy Killefer, tapped to be the nation’s first Chief Performance Officer in the new administration…until that little matter of a 2005 tax lien placed on her home for failure to pay unemployment taxes on household help. Maybe the erstwhile “Efficiency Czar” can now return to her recent 3-year gig as Chairperson of the IRS Oversight Board!.....Got to love the American Justice System (I'm Canadian ,We are slowly becoming George Bush lite ) The U.S incarcerates at 5x's the next nearest G8 country ( on average 3x's longer sentence ) and your homicide rate is also 10x's higher ,....Go 'git your Gun....You guys almost got V.P Sarah Palin (she never met a book she ever read ) and you would have deserved it!!!!!!

Now that is what I call background info that a bunch of guys who gave their two cents in this thread should have considered!

In these days and years, there are a LOT of other people who messed up with their or worse, other peoples money, and I think we should not be the ones who throw the first stone.

I hope Janine reads this and wish her all the best and may she get through these months well and don't listen to the haters.

Hey I pay my taxes, why should I support someone who did not pay taxes for 8 years.

I'm not saying I condone tax evasion but it pisses me off that people like Janine are in jail while real criminals that rape, kill, maim and blow up planes are set free. The world's a backwards place.

Well that's what happens when you let the IRS only go after tax evaders.
