Summer Olympics 2008

The widely held opinion of the Olympics in my office is

Sorry, but it's true.

So. They are most likely not athletic. IMO you have to be at least remotely athletic (there are exceptions) in order to respect the art of sport/competition. I admit there are some lame ass events. At least they (the media and pop in general) are equal opp discriminators. I remember all the flack the winter Olympics got for some of the events and I thought the criticism was unwaranted.

Let people sleep. I think this is a great time of year. :2 cents:

I understand your dilemma with their ages, but I would still go for Alicia Sacrificeyourmoney. I mean, you can always look at the menu, just don't order anything. ;)

Bro, check her neck out next time she is on. She is damn cute, but she is a little on the built side. Still, wouldn't kick her outta bed. Just something I noticed.

I am surprised S. Korea swimmer steps up in swimming to directly challege Phelp.

The best is yet to cum in Gym-nasty !

:1orglaugh A lot of jail bait.

Is anyone else annoyed by the commentators in all the games? In the gymnastics competition last night they kept going on and on about how every contestant was terrible, and how it used to be so much better years ago, and how the teams just don't have the discipline, and how badly they were performing... For fuck's sake, if it's that easy, why don't you get your fat, unshapely ass out of that booth and show everyone how it's done?

I don't mind it when girls have a well-toned upper body. I think it's hot, actually. I love seeing swimmers and water polo players in camisoles and sports bras because it shows off their neck and shoulders. I know that not everyone likes that, but to each his own. :)

WTF is going on with the Oakley Glass Frames with no lenses ? (Volleyball)

Promo Whores or what ?

I just noticed this in the mens competition. Yeah, I think it narrows down to endorsements.

^^
And what's up with the Red/Black color combo that the U.S. teams seem to be sporting so far...I thought our national colors were Red/White/Blue (navy)?

My assumption about the Oakleys is that player took out the lens because it seems the Chinese put the beach volleyball court in the middle of Monsoon season and the rain drops on the lens would distract his vision...although, why wear the frame then?? It really doesn't make sense...

To be fair to them it's not like what they're saying isn't true. A lot of it's just due to the gradual shift in culture, the fact some of their governments are no longer grooming and brainwashing certain children since almost birth to be world class gymnast, and economically not as much resources are being put forward by a lot of places like they were in the past. That’s why there has been a shift in power over the past 15 years in gymnastics.

I understand that. With the end of the Cold War there is no longer the extra incentive for the Soviet countries to transform their women into men in the spirit of competition. However, I think that the commentators shouldn't talk so negatively about the athletes themselves. It isn't the athletes' fault that their countries have gotten so lax in their standards. They should be given credit for their efforts. The countries' Olympic committees should be the ones getting the criticisms from commentators.

Oh, that annoyed me to no end yesterday.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Might be my favorite event to watch. Last night's race was unreal.
It's fun to watch. Also, most people can relate to swimming.

What I have a question about is, why is it that every year a new world record is established? Are these athletes just getting better and better, or are they using performance enhancing drugs? :dunno:

^^^I think this year it has something to do with the new suits, they have this special texture that allows the swimmer to move through the water quicker.

And in the case of Phelps, he's just a freak of nature :dunno: :D

I heard a story on NPR where the Chinese purposely wanted to build "the fastest pool in the world"...it's deeper than a normal Olympic pool, it has these "wave distribution systems" to settle the water quicker...and I really think those bodysuits are as effective as performance enhancers and should be banned for the sake of competition...
