suggestion on advanced search

is it possible to add an option to the "Search in Forum(s)" - section:

"Search Subscribed Threads"

to me, it would be totally helpful to organize my subscriptions. it's cool to have the advantage of adding folders to sort them, for example "rated 5 stars", "my id searches", "cute matures", etc... deeper and deeper categorized, BUT

having a large number of subscriptions it's possible you have to search thread by thread before you find the desired one. so it will be genious, if the staff could do a "JOIN" with the db-table of subscribed threads of the requesting user (if he has subscribed threads).

That actually would be a nifty idea if it could be done. I know what you mean about multiple subscribed threads. I currently have around 500+, and trying to recall one, mostly an id thread, can be a pain.

Unfortunately, the search parameters and functions are mostly set by VBulletin, the board software maker.

I'll see if it can be done, but I wouldn't hold my breath that it's possible.

Yeah thats a great idea, but that might need to be a suggestion for the vBulletin folks.

Like BNF said, I doubt it'll happen anytime soon.

Jel Soft and vBulletin have been dealing with this issue for about three to four years now. It's one of the most widely sought-after features on the official vBulletin support site.

Maybe down the road it'll happen, but they just released the newest version of the software this past winter, so I don't look for it to come about until maybe the release AFTER this next release which is due out in 2008.

oh well :(

question: is this board software modded/patched - espacially depending the search engine and the dbms?

Wow...500+ subscribed threads??? So what's the limit? I have 20 and was afraid I was getting near the limit!!! :1orglaugh

To be honest it's not that hard to search for a subscribed thread. A list of ways to use is easy. Go into advanced search, then try these...

Use your name if you've posted in it.
Thread starters if you remember it.
Title if you remember that.
Subject.
Name of model or topic.
Or any key words you know are in it.
Dates.

The more of these you use the lest results that will come up.

I have nearly 200 subscribed threads and really don't have a problem going through them.

depends on what you search for, poggy :)

and if you just know "i've posted in" but the girl has no id yet. hmm.. she's blond and has nice breasts. oh yeah - i am subscribed to the thread. damn. i am subscribed to 40 threads in my folder "girls without id".

for people like stevie or me the result of that search is too horrible. a filter on "subscribed threads" would be a help for us, to lower the result.

a way to "improve" is - post a kind of signature with describing information to a subscribed thread. keywords, easy to remember and different to often used words like "blonde" or "teen". keywords, depending on the way you normally take to find such content as represented by your thread.

Like I said. I never had a problem with it. I used to go into the id section a lot too. I used to use the search function to find the thread I wanted as I didn't use to subscribe to them when I did. I have not a good short term memory, I forget things within minutes unless I write them down. But ask me 24 hours later or a day, week, month, year then I will. It's part of my job having a good long term memory. So this has destroyed the short term.

Like I said above all you have to do is remember little things. As you will never get a this type search function in VBulletin board unless they restructure the whole system. Sorry. Because they don't have this feature in their programing and will have to rewrite half of it to do it.

Oh, definetly. I've around 200 of my subscriptions that are between current id's, others current id's, old id's and old, un-id'ed.

Some with no text and very general titles.

But, some day there'll be something. Either officially or an installable hack. For now though, you know, it's alright the way it is. But the suggestion, thought and discussion over it is nice.

Like BNF said, the search options are set by the vBulletin maker (JelSoft). We don't want to make a lot of modifications to the software because we have to validate them after each update of VB. I hope they will change the search function completely one day because it's quite resource intensive.

not sure if it was mentioned before but I also find it odd that there is a "Search ***** Forums" option.

well. i am happy with that option, but it mustn't be selected by default. nice thing is - you can save the search form as new default if you want to. perfect would be, if the selected search forum will be stored here as well :)

That is NOT put there by FreeOnes. It's an old school programming term. There are already a couple of threads in which I've answered that very question. Here's one that's extremely informative:

yeah i knew that I was just saying that it is pretty weird for it to be there.

The post wasn't very clear, especially since you said you weren't sure if it was mentioned before, but okay ... regards. :hatsoff:

Can't be changed by FreeOnes or the staff, though ... it's inherent in JelSoft's vBulletin software.

whut? someone thought that button could include/exclude ****-****???

:rofl2:

He posted another thread in the same vein about the same subject minutes later ... the dude was freaking out. It's since been deleted unfortunately.

Dude was spastic.
