Stupid Americans

A heartwarming show of solidarity by one girl to her ill friend. Maybe against the rules but nobody has been injured or killed. There seems to be a lack of common sense applied here.

How this thread has descended into slagging Venezuela, Crimea and Mrs Obama's big face may add credence to the thread title's insinuation.

Must of been Phil that changed the subject as the next guy below him added on about Venezuela.

That is all Phil does, gets drunk and change topics of threads to get off on the internet, instead of getting off on porn babes.

Reason why he is on ignore from advice of others as you just waste minutes of your life reading his psycho dribble.

Maybe you should go to Venezuela. You will feel right at home. There is a lack of toilet paper there.

Look, if some random kid at the school shaves her head, gets kicked out of the school as a result, and then her parent complains and accuses the school of not being consistent with the rules by pointing out that the kid with cancer was allowed to go bald, the school will be able to inform the parent very quickly that that kid was allowed to go bald because she has cancer. The parent will then quickly shut her trap. That is very black and white. But when you start saying "Well, that girl was allowed to shave her head because she knows somebody who has cancer" - then things start to get a little more gray and wish washy. That's probably what the school administrator was thinking about. It might have been the wrong decision, but my point is the way some of you people are acting, one would think it was the cancer victim herself that was kicked out of the school for going bald.

Wow.

I see compassion is something you don't believe in.

Just over reaction zero tolerance policies. That is the USA way! Conform 100% and fuck your compassion for a friend as support.

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
The existing rule may or may not be justified for some particular reason. Conversely, in this particular instance, an exception should obviously have been made and whoever decided to enforce the rule most certainly used poor and extremely insensitive judgement. These types of behaviors should be encouraged in our children, not punished. In that sense, it is most certainly a stupid thing to have done.

However, one cannot make a prejudicial statement about Americans in general simply due to the actions of a few. If this were the case, one could conclude that the whole mother-fucking world is stupid. This thread isn't about Americans. It's about a charter school in Grand Junction, Colorado and should therefore be kept in that context.

Excellent post from a voice of reason.

From a above post I stated it is example of stupid stuff that happens in this country. The federal gov Dems vs GOP relations is another.

But you are right as the tittle makes it seem I calling all of us stupid, a Mod needs to change the tittle to "Stupid School Administration".

:hatsoff:

I hope all the other school kids do the honourable thing that all school kids must do when faced with this situation - cast a string of hurtful and cruel japes towards the baldy ones.

I agree with the "make an exception" opinion. It's not made clear in the article pasted whether or not the mother (article doesn't mention father) contacted the school first, but I get the impression the girl just turned up bald one day. It might have been easier if the mother had rang up and said "Kamryn wants to have her head shaved because Delaney has cancer" they would have had chance to discuss it before reacting by excluding her as a knee-jerk reaction. As it is, it's yet another petty decision made by people that confuse rules with The Law and enforce them regardless of whether the choice to enforce has any relevance to the principle behind the rule in question. I've seen it in workplaces time and time again, and in my time in management always tried to apply common sense to application of the rules rather than looking at them in black and white. There are obvious exceptions but I think in this case the school might have taken some consideration and balanced the importance of young people learning how to dress smartly and follow a dress code (which many of them will need to be prepared to do in their careers) with the importance of what kind of person they are educated to be, in this case Kamryn already showing potential to grow up brave and compassionate, and learning from this experience that compassion can be frowned upon if you shade outside the lines. :nono:

Politics section for anyone that feels like having that particular discussion, please.

At my school I imagine we'd have tired ourselves out much earlier than Year 5 by taking the piss out of their names. If they were besties, they'd have been Spamryn and Smellaney after a couple of days. And of course, after the balding, we'd all decide they must be "lesbinims."

Wait... when did the world stop being stupid? Why did no one tell me this! Huzzah! I can finally stop being a misanthrope!

You keep avoiding the main question: what is wrong in being bald? Why an individual shouldn't shave their head without being negated access to education? Gays adoption is a big thing, but a bald kid kicked from school is not. I think you are the one who should go to live in Venezuela: they have millions of nazi rules that shouldn't be a big deal, there.

Well I thought the school made a stupid choice. In wondering why a school district might have a policy against shaved heads, maybe at some point they had an issue with skinhead organizations. That is assuming it is district wide and applies to high schools as well. Still an example that zero tolerance policies don't work very well.

Schools everywhere have these stupid rules. I remember in our school when we reached senior grades we didn't have to wear the school uniform and we could wear our own clothes. Some rules were in place like "no denim" but they then insisted on us wearing ties. We were against this as ties weren't so cool at the time buf the school insisted. So we just proceeded to find the most ridiculous ties in our fathers and grandfathers wardrobes and wore them. I remember on school photo day the selection of hideous retro ties on display was impressive. The sight of teachers deciding on what tie was and what ties wasn't acceptable still brings a smile to my face!

being kicked out of school for shaving their heads,... but what is next ? being kicked out of school for wearing a cap or sun glasses ? or eating chewing gum ? or wearing a blue or pink shirt ??
I mean how far do we go with this ??

Schools everywhere have these stupid rules.

At my college we could wear what we wanted except no blue jeans. The official rule was "no jeans" but in reality they didn't care if we wore black jeans, didn't bat an eyelid. Blue ones? Go home and change. I never got my head around that one.

I remember that one too. Black Levi 501s were all the rage so the pupils were happy enough. No white socks. Collar length hair was another. A few Cure head style dudes too advantage of that.

The school should be advertising the fact one of their students did this for another - another in need.
And if they didn't want the fashion to catch on/spread they could have done so.

Bad press from good news.

Skinheads was more of a pacific Northwest problem, but maybe.

No. To stop texting they will ban smartphones and tough luck if you have to make an emergency call trying to find a pay phone coming and going.

You must have a big collection of Dockers from then, unless you donated them to Goodwill.

I certainly had a fair few pairs, I think I kept a couple that faded to really dark blue because they looked good with a lot of my shit, but mostly they went down to the PDSA, yeah.

There are lots of stupid rules for many schools. If you don't like the rules then find one with rules you like. Mom should have had a discussion with the school about the shaving before sending her kid in. If mom doesn't like the decision then move tthe kid elsewhere and make that public. As stupid as the rules are, expect something to happen when you break them.

That being said, it was a novel idea from that kid to support her friend in such trying times. Obviously she has learned something about character building from home.
