I have always loved Star Wars but really dug the Star Trek Next Generation stuff. Trek's morality plays stand the test of time. As does its one-world government...a sign of things to come? muh ha ha ha ha
I have come around to this POV, myself. Star Trek is more useful in terms of "human" exploration than Star Wars is.
I would say some of the biggest parts of Star Wars have absolutely nothing to do with science. The force is basically a form of magic from a storytelling point of view. The battle between good and evil is also more important in Star Wars. Star Trek is more of a pure science fiction setting. They try to make things fit that way in how it works in that universe. That's why they have so much pseudo-technical speak in it, and the concepts they have in it are more along those lines. Really often it's just more about what type of story people like more than the actual setting themselves in this battle.
I used to be firmly in the "Star Wars is better" side mostly because I thought all the "follow on" Star Wars series weren't as good as the Original and Next Generation. I also think Star Trek films have been nothing more than moneygrabs.
However...the 3 Prequel Star Wars films have basically destroyed Star Wars's movie cult/cultural credibility. Those films were nothing but blatant "allowance shakedowns" of teens and preteens by Senor Lucas. I can never forgive JarJar Binks's existence. Nowhere did Star Trek ever do anything as dumb as JarJar.:cussing:
Star Trek does seem to be a much more relevant show to "Human (American)" conscious. I like the old-school shows even better today.
I have missed the boat on Babylon 5 and Firefly. I'd like to watch those shows in DVD sometime...the "intelligent" Sci Fan fans that I know in real life seem to speak highly of both of those shows..
