When the market crashes, you don't want people getting hurt tripping on the window sill.
It is part of one of those trust exercises. If you don't go up the stairs and out the window, the corporation knows you are too much of an independent thinker and not hire-able. If you do go through the door, well, at least you weren't on the payroll yet.
