Unlike you Legz I "get" why some might be attracted to all that being a follower of a particular sport might entail (as mentioned by those above).

I'm just not one of those people.

Basically I like sports , but there is only one team I support and thats Scotland in anything from Tiddlywinks to Elephant polo even if it is painful to watch most of the time , if I see Scotland thats who I want to win

As for the other teams in the country like Celtic , Rangers , Dundee Utd or Aberdeen or anyone else , I couldnt give a shit , I would shut my curtains if they were playin in my garden

I played sports growing up it was my first loove it gave me something to do and it hard to explain like some of the members said if you have never played I guess you won't get it :dunno:

what is the draw to sports? I mean really? What makes one love a team to the point that they are passionate about there team winning or losing? Does it really fuckin matter? I mean seriously. Your gonna go to work and carry on about your lives regardless of what team wins or loses whatever game. Baseball, football, soccer, hockey, whatever your sport of choice is.

I've never been able to get into sports and I just can't see what the big deal is.

Good question and great post! I try watching sports and it just seems futile and incredibly unimportant. A bunch of rich men pretending that something is at stake over a ball passing an imaginary line or net or basket.

last night I saw some overly dramatic video montage featuring glossy NFL clips and some tired Jay-Z song and I thought, "If they have to go through all this trouble to hype the game a minute before the Superbowl, what's the point?"

I never understood the appeal...or the sense of glory, triumph and congratulations that comes with a W.

I support England for the same reason.What I can't fathom is those morons who get fanatical about teams with which they have no connection.Like someone who has spent all his life in London but supports Manchester-by all means support your own side but not somebody elses!

My local football team is Glasgow Rangers but I hate both football teams from Glasgow they have ruined Scottish Football for everyone else with there bigotry & greed , I was really hoping that the other Scottish clubs were going to kick them out a few years ago but they bottled it , they have milked and bullied everyone in Scottish football to they get what they want..........I really do hate them....

So I just support my country in anything

I like watching good games of anything as its two good teams and a good game , I like watching the EPL and other sports and leagues , just getting into Ice Hockey & been taking an interest in that lately

Its all about winning and taken part that matters , whether your playing or cheering your team on , the only reason I support Scotland is because its were Im from and its the only team I have an affinty for.............

So I like going along and having a few drinks with my mates , its camaraderie as well , having a laugh and the patter , some of my best times have been following Scotland with my mates even though you end up crying into your beer most of the time lol

Although I'm sure you don't care this deeply, I do remember taking a sports sociology class in college and talking about this exact thing. Basically, from a sociologist point of view, people like sports because they provide the illusion of an identity. Sort of the reason why people refer, (I'm guilty too) to their favorite teams in the possessive (we didn't play well etc...). Overall it's really just a case of people searching for something to identify with that's bigger than themselves.

You could say the same thing about video games. Or anything really. Why spend so much time and money on something as silly as a video game? Why collect stamps? Why follow a t.v show for years? Same diff. Life will go on regardless, you're right. So why do anything? If life is just going to go on, than why does anything matter?

good point. Like others have said too. If I have to ask I'll never get it. I kinda figured it couldn't be explained to me in a manner I'd understand. relating it to other things is as close as I'll get for an explanation.
