Sony to cut price on ps3?

damn i got my hopes up for a price drop just for this crap man im bummed i would sell my left nut for one

Ps3 has way too many moving parts in it.Its much cheaper to produce an xbox360 than a ps3. When xbox1 came out, microsoft was losing insane money on every one sold cause that system had too many moving parts as
compared to the ps2. More never equals better.

Years later the ps2 has become the biggest platform ever. Going into its 10th year soon and they're still supporting it with brand new software?! Thats un-heard of and probably wont ever happen again. The tech is getting more sophisticated and people are starting to want the next best thing yesterday, not tommorow. Too impatient..........

What the hell are you talking about?

It doesn't have much,if not any more "moving" parts than a 360.

PS3-motor to take in discs
360-motor to open and close disc tray

PS3-motor to turn disc
360-motor to turn disc

PS3-sliding Bluray disc reader
360-sliding laser reader

PS3-cooling fan
360-cooling fan

this is an oversimplification, but is there much more in one machine than another?

The PS3 and 360 are comparable in price save for one thing: the Blu-Ray player. That's the only reason that the PS3 costs any more to make, and considering the player shouldn't be that expensive anymore, the reason the PS3 is so much more expensive now is simply Sony trying to inflate the value of the Blu-Ray player.

Yes but the blue ray player built in is supposedly no bargain basement model. I have seen independent audio/video reviewers compare this in terms of quality with models which cost at least if not more than the PS3 itself. I think it does offer reasonable value already.

Oh, I agree that the price is worth it, I just think Sony has intentionally kept the price up so high for a Blu-Ray player. I mean it's been out for almost two years now, and usually by that time tech prices fall by at least 25%, which doesn't seem to be a trend that Sony is subscribing to.

People keep bitching about the high cost of the PS3. When you want quality you just have to fork out extra cash...we are not talking about the xbox here. Sony has given gaming fans a machine that is future proof and we are still not satisfied. I saved my ass up when i decided to get one and i have not regretted it ever since. I laugh when i hear all the fuss about high price....come on, wake up and get real. Console failure rate is minimal compared to other consoles. Appreciate the marvel of technology that sony has unleashed and get a job that pays you decent money.

i depends on the technology and price of ps2 when ps2 was sold at the day-one ( if there's a relation between ps2 and ps3 prices sold at the day-ones times of both)

for me in italy it was something like 300 mila lire ( 300.000 Lire old Italian currency )
if i remember correctly the price of ps2

But if sony wants to over-price it ( the ps3 ) without reason i don't agree with sony...sorry...

edit : ok i checked it was 249 euro
not old currency
the ps2 price at day-one
i googled it ( but still not 100% sure )

ive red most of this thread and this is what i have to say i bought my ps3 when it came out it was expencive $800 60 gb now its $499 for an 80 gb ill tell u why the took out the 2 extra usb and as well as the multi card reader if. if your are worried about the hard drive space sony covres the fact if u want to change it its a standard SATA laptop hardrive and waranty dosent get void. on the other hand xbox 360 i have an elite and quite frankly it just sits there. total waste of my money.

If you're worried about hard drive space, and have some experience modifying the drives themselves, it's pretty easy to get whatever size HD you want on a 360.

Well that at least makes it all official, so should provide a sales boost for PS3 for the next few months at least. Will be interesting to see what XBox does in a reaction to this.

Everyone's tweeting their nuts off about the PS3 Slim at the moment. It's got a nice 120Gb hard-drive but I think there's still some confusion as to whether it'll be upgradable or not. Looks kinda ugly to me though, plus in the UK it's going to be £250! I'd been wishfully thinking that the $299 price tag might stay intact after the conversion making it around £199 :(
What's really awkward for Sony though is the decision to release the PSP Go so near to the PS3 Slim and for £230. Why the hell would someone get the Go when they can get a PS3 for only £20 more? It seems really strange to me that they'd do that.
I don't know why they just don't work on a PSP phone to compete against the iphone. They have the back catalouge of games ready to go (something Mac has always had trouble with). Maybe it's some kind of Ericsson contractual thingy.
I'd choose a PSP phone over an iPhone anyday. I'd rather have a good portable games console that's a shit phone than a good phone that's a shit games console.
