I'll be with friends on the Eastern Oregon desert in the path of totality. (Scheduled a vacation for it last year.) I've read some interesting things, such as, you should pay attention to the ground, too, as the shadows are amazing. (In some cases, it creates a slithering effect,) and you'll witness a 360 degree sunset, with sunset colors appearing all around he horizon. If it clouds over, well.... there's one mighty expensive plane ticket.

There will be a lot of aholes selling fake solar eclipse glasses, only buy from reputable sellers.

How to know if you solar eclipse glasses are real/safe:
"If you have legit glasses-- and not fakes, like the ones Amazon recalled earlier this week-- you shouldn't be able to see ANYTHING but the sun. As in, nothing. No lights. Nothing. So just because they're labeled "ISO 12312-2" doesn't mean they're going to work."

As ani said, kinda eerie. Kinda like looking through Blueblocker™ sunglasses without the glasses. Weird blueish gray hue to the sky. I played Also Sprach Zarathustra and Ray Charles Hit The Road Jack for effect.
