Snow In Britain- Anyone Get Stuck?

With pretty much all of our fine country being caught out by the snow yet again, did anyone else get stuck?

I couldn't get to work; trains, buses, car, all impossible. Don't you think by now, the local authorities might have realised that it snows EVERY WINTER?

Nice avatar.
Pleasantries over, it's time to teach you a lesson:
Nobody gives a shit about the North of the country where the weather hit.
Those in power in Britain believe that anywhere North of the Northern line is not really Britain and is therefore of no consequence.
Good day to you, you Scot :hatsoff:

Spleen

Banned?
Got some yesterday in the south, nothing compared to early this year or last years, but still a good few inches.

Now the only issue is fucking ICE...

Usually seems to blow out before it reaches us, we've had perhaps a couple of inches but on Tuesday I travelled a mere 20 miles and there was 6 inches more.

you would think they've realized, but that would make too much sense...and it's not just you, believe it or not every winter here in alaska it's the same thing, people forget how to drive, road maintenance crews are caught with their pants down and struggle to keep up and tire service shops get swamped with people wanting winter tires put on their cars RIGHT NOW which of course can't happen...ah yes, great times, it does settle down and shortly after the first big snow things go back to normal and everything flows like it did the previous month, just colder and more slippery

Is somewhere outhere.
I've managed to get to work every day so far.But after trying yesterday
and with it snowing this morning,I decided to take the day off instead.

I think I will spend my day off clearing the snow :1orglaugh

Couple of inches today, but i still went to work, a bit icey and slushy on the way home but nothing too bad

For those who think that the UK's response to snow isn't that great while other countries cope with lots more there are two things to bear in mind.
One is that for much of the country heavy snowfalls are rare.My sons were 8 years old before they had enough snow to use their sledge. So the pressure to invest in equipment to deal with it isn't great.
The second point is that generally snow here occurs at around freezing point , often a degree or so above. This results in very sticky snow which can't be blown and is difficult to plough effectively.Often this wet snow then freezes and frequently fresh snow falls on the ice making conditions very treacherous.

I've only been here for a year and some months, so this is my second winter - but from what I hear, people in the UK aren't used to these sorts of winters because they didn't really happen before. It's much like back home, really; I've watched the seasons get more intense as the years go by. Not to discuss causes or the science of climate change, it's definitely happening. They apparently did up their preparations since the last winter, only to have all the snow hit six, seven weeks earlier than last year.

Southampton got dumped on over night. We were nice and dry - and pow, six inches in the morning. My work got canceled, so I haven't needed to go anywhere today anyway. And other than that job, everything else I need to get to is within walking distance.

The beauty of a small country.

Yeah stuck in. Been working on building a garden outbuilding for the past 3 weeks and days like this the bricklayers can't come (cement won't dry in this weather and the ice sticks to all the bricks) but I still get dragged out by the builder (my uncle) to do some job or another, I could've died out there today. Big mistake starting this shed in the winter

Havnt had much snow where I am & what we've had hasnt been a problem so far...ive been able to drive to work as normal. If it gets really bad ill walk though, as I dont live all that far away from work

The one and only.
Unless we get at least a foot of snow, nothing shuts down around here. Our traffic department, whilst inefficient at completing construction projects in a timely manner, does take care of snow removal very well. I've never not been able to get to work because of inclement weather.

I'm in Cambridge and there's nearly no snow.
I lived in Russia and it was a mild winter, no more than a foot, only went down to -14.
Frankly I think England should be able to hack it and we're weak if we can't.
