i think after hearing zeitgeist, it's clear who the pumpkins actually were all these years. i always kinda thought james had a bigger role, but it seems that it's been 100% billy and jimmy. (except for adore, which was a cool personal record despite what most say.)

good for you for liking adore! that separates true fans from front runners.
adore was an incredible album, so different and so beautiful. it was influenced by the passing of billy's mother, martha. you can clearly hear the tones of sadness throughout.
Well the story goes that Billy did most of the guitar and bass work for all of the pumpkins early albums and iha and d'arcy were really just there for tours

I haven't stopped listening to the new CD yet. I'm starting to think that it is the band's most consistent work, track for track, since Siamese Dream. Crazy, I know.
yeah, when that album came out, pretty much everyone i knew abandoned the band. fuck 'em all. "for martha" is one of the most beautiful songs ever written about loss. man, it's so good to have something new from the pumpkins, whether it's just billy and jimmy or not.
I used to be a HUGE Sp-fan, but Zeitgeist is a huge dissappointment.
There are some truly great songs on it, but some really awful ones too.
TFE wasn't that bad, Zwan was bland and boring.
I really didn't care about that D'arcy And James weren't in the fold this time, since they didn't really contribute anything musical other than some stuff here and there.
Saw the Tarantula video and it sucked. There something very embarassing about a 40 year old man trying to put up a "I don't give fuck and i'm cool" face staring into the camera.
It worked when he was 25 and hated the world, but now it's just lame.
Billy looked pretty tired on Letterman too.
Plus the "happy" lyrics on Zeitgeist really sucked.

indeed. adore definitely sorted out the front -unners from the true fans. it is still one of my favourites. for martha is a beautiful heartfelt song. i sencond that.
jc is my favourite drummer of all time. and its not just because he's with the pumpkins, his style is unmistakable and entertaining. one of my in-laws partied with him once in dallas after a zwan show!
I've listened to it about three times so far. I was never a fan of Mellon Collie and anything they did after that.

Just saw them at Reading Festival and their performance was amazing.

Am I missing something Squallumz? I thought fans where allowed to be critics aswell? The Pumpkins have such a diverse sound it is hard for every fan to love everything they put out there. For example, I love any acoustic stuff they have done, cover or not, and some og their heavier stuff is brilliant aswell. But I just don't like some of their songs. And I would call myself a fan of the Smashing Pumpkins.
I do like this new album. Not the best, but still a solid album.
