I was talking to a workmate the the other day about the reggae music
when I mentioned 'skinhead reggae' he looked at me as if I was crazy,
he said skinheads don't like Reggae! I said the original skinhead loved
reggae, in fact the birth of the Skinhead in the Uk was partly based on
the Jamacian Rude boys that emigrated to the Uk in the 60's, a few
Jamaican artists made a living from the Skinhead fans such as Derrick
Morgan & Laurel Aitken.

Early reggae (or skinhead reggae), is generally considered to be the
period before the Rastafari movement entered mainstream Jamaican
music from 1968to 1970. It met great success in the UK, especially
with the skinhead subculture. Major artists include John Holt, Toots
& the Maytals, The Pioneers and Symarip. Laurel Aitken, Desmond
Dekker & Derrick Morgan

The Ska track, 'Simmer down' by The Wailing Wailers,
(Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailers) was a Studio One
classic, the album cover in my opinion was the dress code for
many Rude Boys, Mods and Skinheads, released in the mid sixties.
Check out Peter Tosh to the right, Jamaicans
call him the original Rude-boy, check out his low cut trousers,
when I think about it now he was most propably too tall for
the trousers they ordered lol:

I had that Specials album on vinyl many moons ago titsrock.
The Specials are dressed similar to the Wailing Wailers on their
debut album at Studio one.

Yes Laurel Aitken was awesome, he was still going strong when he
died a few years ago.

Madness were skinheads, I remember they were accused of being
racists because their music appealed to skinheads, I remember
Suggs (the lead singer) saying our name is 'Madness' in honour
to our hero Prince Buster. They covered a few of
Prince Buster tracks as well, such as Madness, The Prince and one
of my favourites is the video to 'One step beyond'
