I can't stand that show.

As for The Simpsons, look at how much it costs. I've seen different estimates, but I'm certain it costs at least 3 million per episode and I've seen estimates as high as 6 million or more per episode, so it's now costing FOX somewhere between 70 to 120 million per season. Truthfully, I only see two reasons why it's still on:
1 Continuing with the episodes is just an excuse to fuel the merchandising juggernaut the series has become.
2 Compared to the other networks, FOX is still looked upon as a youngster and having a series that has become truly iconic is a real status symbol that FOX would like to keep.
Although the series has lasted longer than others in number of years, Gunsmoke still holds the record for number of episodes as back then, they made many more episodes per season than any series does in today's markets. I think that once that record is broken, FOX will probably pull the plug.
Heard something on the radio today about this. They said the Simpsons could really cash out BIGGER if it was cancelled by Fox.
If Fox does cancel the show, then it will end up in syndication and each episode could net over one million and some odd dollars. Since the Simpson catalog is so vast, then Matt Groening could make over seven million dollars alone on just that.

The Simpsons grew stale over a decade ago. I say put it out of its misery already.
The show was supposed to end after the movie came out and it should have. It hasnt been funny in over 6 years. I am surprised anyone even watches it anymore.

I'm actually in a house full of Simpsons fans. We watch it quite often.
I think that the voice actors get paid a crazy amount (and yes, I understand they make less than a lot of other actors / actresses out there) BUT, I also think they are what makes the show. It just wouldn't be The Simpsons without these folks.
I hope it stays.

if they had good writers, it'd be an amazing show, and fox would be begging them to sign on for another 40 years or something.
If people think the show isn't as good as it was in it's prime, and the network thinks it cost too much they could cut down the number of new shows a season to half of what it is now. They could get new writers or make the writers come up with better things in the extra time they have for each show. Maybe even better, they could even do things like having contest for the fans to submit their best scripts and make shows out of the winners while getting the writer of that show money and notoriety they might need. If there were fewer shows reducing the production cost could be more easily justified, and it would keep the show running with new material for people that like it.
