PS: I am VERY surprised that a STAFF SERGEANT thought this WOULD NOT cause controversy (in her own words). I would assume that by now she could tell the difference between "posing" [therefore consequentially (fortunately or unfortunately) "representing"] .... and "civillian".

so, i can wear the american flag as a diaper ala larry flynt, and i wont get in trouble for desecrating the flag? i dont understand. this girl wears her uniform during a nude photo shoot and its not the same thing? she is still desecrating the uniform. whats the difference here? :dunno:
While a large portion of people might frown upon it, it isn't ******* and is a protected right of free speech. (For the time being at least)
In the military there are actual rules that you have to follow, and they are held to a higher standard, which I agree with. Plus in a technical sense they also might view the uniform itself as the government’s property and not yours while your still a member of the armed ******.
It's not like we are talking about a new AF airman...she had 12 years in, did AF S/sgt Michelle Manhart ...she was possibly considering a career change at the time, what a way to do it.
Playboy to CNN...she will probably make a few bucks before she's through.
She may get her own thread on Freeones...
The uniform?
It is what it is...those rules and attitudes are set in stone; anyone in and most out of uniform know that the Military frowns upon such activity (posing in Playboy), and to do it IN your uniform is verbotten.
Which is why I feel she had a career change in mind, but wanted to get paid now.

jesus, why don't you just get the woman a chastity belt and a muzzle while you're at it? so what if she's in the freakin army? what does that have to do with anything at all in the world other than a person performing thier duties in active service?
this whole thing just comes off as really sexist and anti-woman, and reinforces the belief that many people have that the armed froces are just a bunch of brainwashed robots stripped off all self identity.

Unless I missed something I don't think it is, not just because you burn a flag. The Supreme Court upheld flag burning in 1989 and 1990 although there are constantly people trying to get an amendment to change it. That doesn't mean you can burn it in places where your not allowed to burn anything else, but your allowed to burn it as a expression of speech.
you obviously have no national pride fox. it is not just a flag. it is a symbol of a country. i take old glory very seriously. if i see someone burning or pissing on it, or even walking on it i will do something. and the same goes for this girl and her uniform. she did offend me by posing in her military uniform. in my opinion, these "cloths" hold a certain level of respect and dignity.

I know nobody will agree, I don't care really. I feel that just like the Miss America thing that happened, along with certain positions/occupations come a "unspoken" responsibility to just plain "not" do certain things. People that choose the military, higher government positions, teachers, clergy, police officers being some of those. As well as several others, but that's not important.
The point is this. If you are "Representing" you should do so with strength, class, morals and respect as well as commitment to your pledge, crown, badge and/or uniform. Yes people should be able to do as they please, but if one chooses to do certain things, its a package deal I feel. You accept unspoken certain things you should not do. They must "appease" the masses and that does include the religious, the young and the opinionated. :dunno: You just can't change that. Its a matter of presenting yourself in a light that works for everyone and doing it well with conviction. IMHO only of course.

I just **** the hypocrisy that someone (who is it?) get's to pick and choose what is offensive and what isn't. it should be up to you. and even if I **** it and disagree with it, I think you should be allowed to think whatever you want to, and then I get to tell you what a douche bag A hole you are.
face it, to some people It IS just a peice of cloth, clothing, job. to some it's more than that. but at the end of the day no one is ****** to buy playboy magazines. if someone doesn't like it chances are they won't even see it anyway and just want to be a bitch and ***** there views on everyone else (very undemocratic!) or else they like what they see in there and that's why they buy the darn thing.

It would be so easy if that were true, but alas we are a "civilized" society. We can't just act and do as we please otherwise it would result in chaos. What people think overall does matter and all the "I don't care what he/she thinks" in the world won't change that fact.
I agree they don't have to. I guess I didn't cover every nook and cranny in my post, lets try this.
What I simply meant was this. Its a matter of setting a "good" example to these groups also, so that you will continue to shine in the light you wanted when you chose your position and reflect back to society what is expected of you? Better?
