Saw this recently asked in a news story.Should victims of a crime be allowed to sentence the person who committed the crime against them.
The way it would work is there would still be the min/max sentence but the victim would pick the length of the sentence.
Personally I don't think this would be fair as the victim would be biased.After it's you who have had the crime committed against them.So your going to give out the maximum sentence possible.It would still be decided by the courts if the guilty or not guilty.But get to give them the sentence if found guilty.Lets be honest even if there are special reasons why this person or persons committed the crime.Your still not going to pay any attention to it and give them the maximum sentence.
So I say leave it to the judge to sentence as he is independent and unbiased.
