Sections For "Club Members Only"...

This idea is kind of connected with my "Hiding Threads" suggestion, but not really (HA). I just read Torre82min's suggestion about being able to see our past 5,000 or so posts instead of only 500, and I got to thinking...

I think it would be nice if there was a section, similar to "Members Only", where only certain members could have access. I know that sounds discriminatory, but this way, all of the newbies who don't "get it" yet, jackasses who do nothing but post complete crap and assholes who do nothing but dish out slander to fellow posters wouldn't be able to post in the threads that are found in that section.

For instance, IN THIS POST HERE, there was some moron who decided to insult my dead grandmother for no good reason at all and I don't want to be reading or dealing with that kind of shit. I know they're just words and this is a public internet forum, but come on. That kind of isn't wanted by anyone, let alone the good standing members of this board.

The current Members Only sections is ok, but every single member has access to it, which, IMO, isn't any different than "FreeOnes Talk".

I don't know exactly how that would work, but maybe only members with 1,000+ posts (for example) could have access to the "Club Members" section or something to that effect.

Or, if we could somehow have a ballot-like situation, where FreeOnes Members (once again, with a certain post count, etc) could vote in other members. Personally, I would like to see a section where people like Tunsty, D-rock, Legzman, PlasmaTwa2, Becks...poamr, Torre82min, etc...could post away and not have to deal with unnecessary bullshit.

(I apologize to those members who felt like they should be listed, and actually deserve to be listed, but there are a lot of other names I could've used as examples and I don't want to be typing this post for another 45 minutes. :tongue

I've seen newer members with less than a hundred posts, but their posts are very well written, or contain good links. At the same time, I've seen (and see) members with well over a thousand posts who post such random bs and thread diverting garbage that the only reason they deserve to have a special section would be to reward the fact that they haven't been banned yet.

I may not be a member of the Talk and Members Only clique, but I do follow what goes on with the members and honestly, the new guys that do post poorly, really are often better than the regulars. :2 cents:

But seriously, I agree. The posts from newer members or, for lack of a nicer term, shitty members, that are nothing but "I'd fuck her" or "damn, she's hot yo" are completely annoying. I know that they'll never go away, but can we at least filter out MOST of it?

IMO, the Members Only section is pointless. 99% of the posts in there are from members who have 3 posts or some shit. Yes, they are saying "hi" and introducing themselves, which is nice (don't get me wrong), but how is that any different than FreeOnes Talk? It's not.

I see newer members who are good posters too and I've also seen Johnny Post-a-lot post like shit for his whole FreeOnes career. That's why I think it would be nice to have some sort of vote or ballot to gain access to a Club Members Only section (or something, I'm not married to the name :tongue.

I just feel like I'm back in my high school cafeteria when all I read is "you're all fucking fags", "that bitch is so fucking hot", "fuck you mother fucker" and "suck my dick you faggot". It's old...it's really, really old and completely uncalled for.

I know I was absent for quite a while (due to unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstances) but I feel like I'm one of the more respected members on this board and I just thought I would stand up and raise my voice a little bit in order to better the experiences for the good FreeOnes members.

I'm sorry if doing something like this would offend any of the newer members who are actually good posters or the older members who feel like their post count negates them from being unliked (which it doesn't, IMO)...but I think that having some sort of "privelaged" access to a certain section would've prevented a lot of good standing members from leaving FreeOnes in the first place. The more good and respectable members we keep, the more enjoyable this board will be...for everyone.

The voting idea is good, but what about if a "Platinum Members Only" thing is done by rep? The guys who post "I would wreck that" and "Oh yeah I would love to tounge that bung" obviously aren't going to have alot of rep points, so that would exclude them from all of it...

The only problem is that game where we rep each other...

I recently defended a man who killed a 13 year old boy, so what's your point? Should everything I say besides that be viewed as from now on? Obviously people are going to have different ideas of who they would or wouldn't want to have access to a true "Members Only" section, that's why there would have to be some sort of voting system (for example) set up, in order to be the most fair to everyone.

The difference between a forum and using AIM or MSN Messenger is huge. You have individually IM or PM every single individual member if you are using a P2P messenging service. In a forum, you can post once and everybody can read it. Plus, you can start threads and polls, which you can't do in a P2P messenging service.

Ain't that the truth. We've lost quite a few at least partially because of unchecked combative members.

Chef, this idea, particularly the idea of voting in members to a certain section or allowing access with a certain post count would be somewhat of a utopia, but it really goes against the way the board operates. Will likely never be implemented.

There are a few idiots this board could do without in my opinion, and ALL have under 1000 posts. Why? Because people who are repatedly personally insulting, instigating and combative do not make it to that mark because they are banned. It is sad that we have to deal with their crap for as long as we do. On the flip side, there are many good posters under 1000 and even under 100. I noticed a person last night who just joined and had two posts, both of good quality. And it is certianly not the first time. Everyone has to start somewhere, and postcount is not necessarily an indicator of post quality. I feel it can be an arbitrary screener of quality, though, but like I mentioned, it won't happen.
