It is a day that true movie fans will be at once sad and happy. The great Sir Sean Connery has hung up his acting hat, ending a career that can only be described as nothing short of extraordinary. It is very rare that an actor of this caliber comes along. Starting his film career in the mid 1950's, he worked constantly, then in 1962 he took the role that would define the gentleman spy, James Bond 007. Starting with Dr. No Connery would go on to do 6 007 films in total (Unless you count 1983's Never Say Never Again which was not an official part of the 007 series) and while his successors did their best with the role, it is Sean Connery who will be forever known as the definitive Bond. While some of the the movies he did were not always great films (Highlander 2 anyone?) He always seemed to bring something memorable to his roles, no matter what the quality of the overall film may have been. Aside from Bond, some of Sir Sean's most memorable characters were:Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez from Highlander (1986), Jimmy Malone from The Untouchables (1987), Lt. Col. Alan Caldwell from The Presidio (1988), Professor Henry Jones from Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade (1989), Capt. Marko Ramius from The Hunt For Red October (1990), an uncredited cameo as King Richard in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (1991), Capt. John Connor in Rising Sun (1993), the voice of Draco the dragon in Dragonheart (1996), the list goes on an on. This was a man who loved what he did, and was brilliant at it. He not only loved acting, he loved movies and it showed in everything he did. Post some of your favorite moments from any of Sir Sean's films , share your memories of great actor who is taking a well desreved rest. I myself am grateful that Mr. Connery graced us with his presence on the silver screen for so long, he will remain an icon in the entertainment world forever. Here's to you Sir Sean, thanks for the memories and enjoy your retirement.
Here's a great response to Steve Buscemi accusing Capt John Connor of being a racist Japan basher in 1993's Rising Sun:"What is Japan bashing? What does it mean? All creatures are created equal except the Japaneese? You stupid little ****, fuck off!!"
