Say something nice about the other side

Well, two people who will remain nameless are taking a bit of a break from the Politics and Religion section. I think this might be a nice time for us to discuss some areas where we break from the typical partisan stereotypes as a means of establishing some common ground with each other. I seem to throw in the with the liberal side since I'm not a fan of the Republican social agenda, so I will go first:

I have no problem with otherwise law-abiding individuals who want to own guns for sport or personal defense.

I generally support the death penalty for the standard capital crimes. People can point out that it is unfairly applied to minorities, but that is not a problem with the death penalty itself. We just need to execute more white people.

Political correctness, particularly as it is applied as a means to suppress criticism of certain doctrines within Islam, is a threat to basic Western freedoms and does more harm than good to the people who are most suffering under Islam, being women and minorities.

You get the general idea. Have at it.

I appreciate the gesture, Yak, but, to me, the whole "other side" concept is a mirage. If anyone on this forum is either 100% conservative, authoritarian, liberal or libertarian on every single issue, I would argue that they really aren't thinking for themselves (see "Dylann Roof"). To contend that any political philosophy is either always correct or always wrong on every single issue is simply unrealistic. Anyone with the capability to think for themselves who has been shaped by their life experiences, influences and environments should have a belief system that is concurrently liberal and conservative, authoritative and libertarian....depending on the individual issue.

To me, there is no "other side". There's only "us"....or "we, the people". Those who have this system rigged against us love the polarization that has been manufactured since, if they can keep us fighting amongst ourselves, they can also keep right on picking our pockets and hoping we don't notice or at least will remain distracted and divided enough to keep from uniting against them.

Alrighty...

Although the song didn't really do much for me, I really liked the way the music video had a film noir kinda feel to it. I remember when it first aired on MTV and I'd watch it for weeks after not only because of the unique cinematography but because it some weird way, it reminded me of a lot of shows and cartoons I used to watch when I was a kid.

I of course am referring to Red Hot Chili Pepper's "Other Side"

As a moderate leftie I'll pitch in a little...

Me either.

I fully support it for capital crimes.

I disagree with this one. I'm not seeing it as a threat at all to Western freedoms. I think most of us know the score, and understand why we're currently taking the tack we are. ISIS et al would love to have us brand (or even appear to brand) this conflict as a war on Islam. That would be a propaganda/recruiting goldmine. Even George Bush, who I greatly disdain, was wise enough to get that.

What does this mean? Nothing. I just like the penguins from Madagascar.

I oppose what is happening and what they're doing. But even I have to grudgingly admire them for continuing to do what works.

Just to disappoint Adam ;)

The other side is on the other side. If there is no common ground shared, it's normal that both sides say to each other "Hey you are a moron, if you are on the other side. Come over this side, that it's the better one and if you don't go fuck yourself".
At least they talk to each other and that's all that counts. Ignoring differences is never a good idea and it's the enemy of progress and interpersonal relationships.

Right wing babes are typically pretty easy to corrupt and are hot in bed. Not surprising, really, considering most of them are married to or aspire to marry men that are uptight and anal obsessed. As long as you treat them with respect and pretend it didn't happen you can have fuck buddies for life, another reason I don't take the "values voters" all that seriously, we can always ask Jesus to forgive our fornication and other minor sins and nary a soul shall know.

There's a difference between talking to and talking at. Most people hear only what they wish to hear anyway. Too bad since we can learn a lot if we take the time to actually listen instead of simply waiting to speak.

I've avoiding posting in this thread until now since I strongly believe in keeping threads on topic. However today Jeb Bush has released 33 years of tax returns, so thumbs up to him for doing so.

Jim Webb sucks a lot less than any other democrat politician. That's about as nice as I get.
