Have lived in So Cal most of my life and there is a sense we're about due for another large one.
But that sense is based more on human perception of time as opposed to geological.
Last year, Jordan's team found there's a 7 percent chance the state will experience a magnitude 8.0 quake in the next three decades.
Only 7 percent? That's actually a lot lower than I would have thought.

The 7% deal made me feel more invulnerable to earthquakes. Was that the desired response from the article?
It appeared to be preparedness, Dino. But like you that 7% figure made me feel a less pressing need.
Of course, as we know quakes in the 6.5 to 7 range can be plenty destructive themselves, and I'm sure the probability of one or more of those over the next 3 decades is considerably higher than 7%

According to the report by USGS the estimates of the chance of a magnitude 8.0 or greater earthquake have been raised from about 4.7% to 7%. The reason for the increased estimate was because of the growing understanding that earthquakes aren’t limited to separate faults, but can start on one fault and jump to others. In past models it was generally assumed that earthquakes were confined to separate faults. Basically the risk hasn't changed, but the numbers show a more accurate model.

It was an underated movie, the CGI was awesome, gave me goosebumps/chills first time I saw it.
Dwayne Johnson is always cool, Carla Gugino is always hot, Alexandra Daddario is very hot and has beautiful eyes.
Good performances, but the plot/story was weak/predictable and could have had better writing.
Visually stimulating.

I figured so when when that movie first came out - like 2012, it's the Michael Bay-ing of natural disasters. But I'm not gonna lie, I can't stop watching tsunami and earthquake videos from Japan's 2011 9.0.
That part of the clip in the movie where you could see the ground rolling like a wave towards downtown L.A. - I can relate. In the Seattle quake of 2001, after the side to side shaking stopped, there was a rolling sensation like my house was a boat on the open ocean. There's nothing more unsettling than what should be the solid ground beneath you feeling like it's turned into a body of water.
