A Russian jet bomber has approached a US aircraft carrier off the Korean coast and was intercepted by American fighter jets - the second such incident in less than a month, US defence officials said.

A Russian bomber came within three to five nautical miles and flew 610 metres above the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier and its accompanying ships, the officials said.

Two US F/A-18 fighters were launched to intercept the Russian aircraft and ****** it out of the area.

Russian bombers over the past year have increased their flights near US territory and US naval assets, demonstrating their long-range strike capability.

Why thank you for the demonstration !! :hatsoff: You're very kind and generous to go so far out of your way. May we reimburse you for the fuel ? No, really ! It's the least that we could do ! :)

That demonstration would not have been necessary without the stationing of the US missile system in Poland and the Czech Rep.

What if ... Russia stationed a missile defense system in Cuba or Venezuela...?

Ah, hell, for all we know, they're just south of the Rio Grande.

I don't know what would stop them. They'd have to be idiots not to.

From a strategy standpoint, it's very plausible.

I suppose it's a bit dicey in the determination of how "defensive measures" are defined.
"I" don't foresee any American aggression toward Russia, OTOH, if we were, to reverse this statement leaves much to ponder.
FWIW IMO YMMV

:sing: Sparring are the nations :2 cents:

Well then we'd have the Venezuelan Missile Crises. Let's see how Dubyuh handles that one.

the tu95 is very obsolete but it is good at what it does. Even its radar is far to be comparable to the latest version of the b52, the b52h. Even in terms of weaponry and missiles, the b52 beats the tu95. The TU95 carrying mainly the as4 kitchen and as15 kangaroo missiles. You must however not underestimate the tu160 blackjack a russian copy of the b1b lancer capable of mach2 and with heavier bomb payload.
Concerning Venezuela, it bought some su27 with basic radars not some aesa radars and no thrust vectoring engines, plus venezuelian pilots are far to have a combat record equaling the USAF or Israeli Air ***** pilots.

Maybe the Russians can outsource to Boeing for a new model, save the company and probably make some US military fatcats very happy who negotiated the contract?

hmmm...a threat perhaps? Or just reminding us that they can fuck us up just as much as we can fuck them up...

They still can't compete with Peter North's long shot!

Like JFK did?

Ha! Smartypants! That was a big smokescreen. I like JFK, but he fooled a lot of people on that one--making a deal with Khruschev to pull our missiles out of Izmir. Everyone thought Kennedy threatened the Soviets, making him look like a hero.
