How about being a citizen?

I agree with that, but in all seriousness...

Just because you're a citizen of the US doesn't mean you are intelligent enough to cast a vote that could potentially change our whole entire country. Most people don't even know what or who they are voting for when they cast a ballot and, personally, I think that is fucking stupid.

I'd rather not vote than vote for something because I feel like I "have" to just because that's my legal "duty" as a citizen.

But thats just madness, and surley is unconstitutional.

It's just a proposition--food for thought. I don't think it's so bizarre as you might think it is. Assuming most kids are out the door at 18, and that it's a discussion most people (couples) have amongst themselves anyway.

Just in case there is any confusion being a citizen is a requirement to vote.Be a citizen,be 18 yr's of age and be registered is the requirements currently.Except for the disqualifiers in some states like being a convicted felon.

~ Felons have no voting rights.

~ People with lower IQ's must exhibit knowledge of the political system to participate.

~ 18 to 21 year olds must pay a small fee to vote. (their age! 20 = 20$)

~ Those who abstain from the voting process are suddenly eligible for reserve duty in the military for 1 year. Whoda thought they had so much time and so little opinion? Might as well give 'em one for next time!

Call it whatever you want, but I think people need to be accountable for their actions. Those who voted bush a second term.. in my opinion committed a crime and should be held accountable in various ways. A nation of fools led by a fool, hm.

If Barack was white there would be no question as to if he's going to win. It would all be a formality until election day when they hand over the keys and say 'sorry about all that due process and election nonsense. We knew you had this one already.'

I got one: anyone who voted in this poll should not be eligible for national voting.

When I first saw the title I thought it said "Rules on vomiting in America". you know it's nothing in the law pertaining to vomit? you could go out and puke on 50 people and there's nothing they could do about it. I suggest you go try it out.

Only if you're buying the Steele Reserve and Absolut Citron. I'm not putting out cheap money for quality vomit. :p

Everyone who is a citizen, over 18 and has the mental capacity to understand the political system should be allowed to vote. Even convicted felons.

The right to vote is just that, a right. If you are an American citizen than you should be entitled to have your say. For whatever it's worth.

And I have to say that some of the ideas I've read on this thread are terrible. Like the "one vote per house hold" idea. People who live together have different political opinions and vote for different candidates. Also, the idea that "people who have been on welfare shouldn't be allowed to vote" is stupid as hell.

If you think it's fair to disenfranchise someone for being on welfare than I assume you would also be in favor of disenfranchising anyone who has benefited from corporate welfare. Like the CEOs, employees and stockholders of Bear Stearns, AIG, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Other corporate welfare recipients include Boeing, Xerox, IBM, Motorola, Dow Chemical, and General Electric among others. I don't ever hear anyone clamoring for the disenfranchisement of those welfare recipients.

^Great points except I find some of the ideas more worrying then 'terrible'. I think they are interesting but it worries me a little how many on here (and in ninetysixcavy's class) would so easily remove SO many peoples right to vote.

Very interesting thread though.

The trouble is that if your goal is to have a higher percentage of the voters being intelligent then the one vote per household rule would hurt that.
Odds are if one spouse is smart, so is the other. So under your idea, a significant number of intelligent (and probably well informed) voters would be ineligible.

My understanding concerning Bush, was it was found that the greater percentage of higher educated Americans did not support him.

Ya think?
I don't.
But he is half white, with is stho fasionable.
Anyway, i think if he was 100% white he'd probably be back there with the rest of the crew and endorsing Hillary.
but we'll never know fer sure.

I did not vote for any of the choices, I do agree being a citizen part. Most people who are educated or making good money if they are in a party of affiliated they will vote for that party's nominee no matter what, so I guess we will have to get rid of political parties.

I agree that we shouldn't have different parties that oppose eachother in elections, but...people loooooove to be on a team, so we'll always have opposing political parties to play for.

I think it's sad that people will vote Democrat just because they are a Democrat. I think it's sad that people will vote Republican just because they are a Republican.

I also think it's sad that people who choose to be dedicated to one political party continue to be blind to the fact that they are doing nothing but making our country more seperated and divided.

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
I voted *OTHER* because I think we the (PEOPLE) should run and have control of our government through rules and regulations all *GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES* have to be adhere to and be accountable to and for, by way of mandating the *PEOPLES* ability to control CORRUPTION in our government!!

How about the rules including (THE PEOPLES POWER) to remove or introduce a vote to be held in 30 days, instead of several months, whether or not the chosen politician that holds office be fired, and a vote to a successor or stand by, or next in line if you will takes over the position??

How about we the people determine the politicians income based on the goals (they said they would deliver, during there campaign for election) and their accomplishments, and the politicians effort to serve the people they swore they would serve!!

How bout the POLITICIANS actually having to work for us (THE PEOPLE) and not serve and take the POWER we gave them to serve the Agenda's of the lobbyists, the big corporations, and there obvious crimes of accepting bribes to rule and run there personal AGENDA instead of serving the people from which they received the prestigious (AUTHORITY, POSITION OF POWER) that every politician EMBARRASSES, AND CORRUPTS!! :hatsoff:

True... and the very uneducated did not support him as well.
It seems, education level and support for Bush was mixed.

A look back...

At the time Bush was elected, very uneducated (high school or less) and very highly educated (post-graduate and doctoral) were predominantly Democrat ...while the middle (college / university educated) were predominantly Republican.

According to Pew Research Center for the People and the Press...

1997-2000 (Rep / Dem)
< HS = (20 / 39)
HS = (26 / 34)
Some College = (30 / 31)
College = (35 / 28)
Post-Grad = (29 / 34)

2004 (Rep / Dem)
< HS = (20 / 41)
HS = (28 / 34)
Some College = (32 / 31)
College = (33 / 32)

http://people-press.org/report/?pageid=750
http://people-press.org/commentary/?analysisid=95

CNN exit poll of 13,660 people in 2004 seemed to have more or less followed this trend...
2004 (Bush / Kerry)
No High School = (49/50)
H.S. Graduate = (52/47)
Some College = (54/46)
College Graduate = (52/46)
Post-Grad Study = (44/55)

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/US/P/00/epolls.0.html

So apparently lack of education is not what convinced people to vote for Bush as much as other things such as their agreements with him on ideology.
Top most important qualities for Bush supporters at the time per CNN...
(Religious Faith,Strong Leader,Clear Stand on Issues, etc...)

CNN is wrong. Honestly, I don't think that any of those were the major causes which lead people to vote for Bush. What did? Stupidity, lack of caring and laziness.

Hardly anybody who votes has a valid reason as to why they are voting for or against something. If you asked 100 people who voted for Barack Obama why they voted the way that they did, I will guarantee you that at least 90 of those people wouldn't even be able to tell you Obama's stand on different issues that effect our country. It's sad, but true. Our country is full of stupid people who act like they know what's going on, even though they are the most ignorant mother fuckers around.
