Rita Ora, contrary to popular opinion, is Albanian, where many of the people are olive-skinned, so she is an olive-skinned, white woman. Rita Ora is of kosovar Albanian background. Both of her parents are Albanian. Rita Ora is ethnically Albanian, and was born in Pristina, Yugoslavia, in what is now Kosovo.

Early life

Ora was born in Pristina, SFR Yugoslavia (present-day Kosovo),[1] to Albanian parents. Her mother, Vera (née Bajraktari), is a psychiatrist, and her father, Besnik Sahatçiu, is a pub owner, having previously studied economics.[5][6][7] Ora has an older sister, Elena (who is a part of her management team), and a younger brother, Don.[8] She was born as Rita Sahatçiu (pronounced [sahatˈtʃiu]; surname derived from the Turkish word, saatçi, which means "watchmaker"), but her parents later added Ora (which means "time" in Albanian) to the family surname so it could be easily pronounced.[9]

Her family left Kosovo for political reasons, because of the persecution of Albanians initiated with the disintegration of Yugoslavia.[10] They relocated to London, England in 1991, when she was a year old.[5] She grew up in Notting Hill, in West London,[11] and attended St Cuthbert with St Matthias Primary School in Earls Court, following which she graduated from a performing arts school, Sylvia Young Theatre School.[12] She began singing at an early age.[13][14][8]

Rita Sahatçiu Ora is a British singer, songwriter and actress. She rose to prominence in February 2012 when she featured on DJ Fresh's single "Hot Right Now", which reached number one in the UK. She is Albanian both from maternal and paternal side. Her parents migrated to Great Britain from Kosovo and her real surname is Sahatçiu wich means ‘’watchmaker’’ and her stage name is Rita Ora (Ora - alb. watch).

In this videoclip she has a Kosovo flag scarf. She said : "I was born in a little city called Pristina which no one really knows about, so I’m proud to kind of put it on the map out there a little bit because we are a very patriotic country so we always try and mention us wherever we can because it's such a great place". Later she told : "The whole country was outside... I got off the plane, it was like millions of heads. I couldn't see the floor. I'm not even exaggerating. It was the most surreal experience I've ever felt. It was more than a music video. [It] was a moment in our history as Kosovo, it was a moment for people to see us: how we live, our landscape. It was my duty to do my video there.’’

She is also a Honorary Ambassador of Republic of Kosovo.
