Risky moments in games

Sorry I can't think of a pithy, verbose title than that. Thing is, I have noticed with games lately the catch line is usually along: doomsday, world being ripped apart, and all that sort.

It's getting old.

I just read the Gears of War 3 article in Game Informer and one line kind of perturbed me. It was: And a new threat is rising up that will literally tear the planet apart.

Really? Bullshit, I say! We'll conquer it and that will be that. Gears of War 4 will come out and next thing you know another big threat will come that will literallytear humanity part or the world.

I'm sick of reading **** like this! It's silly. It doesn't happen!

I want to see it "literally" happen. One way or the other! What happened to story lines tugging at emotions? On every level.

Remember the heartbreaking scene in Final Fantasy VII? Where Aerith was ******? People still talk about that! Or how about Metal Gear Solid and how hard that game was, not to mention the story line, as well as innovation.

Games today. What do they offer? A story line to keep us entertained for a few days, a week or two, maybe a month or so. Depending on our gaming habits. Thing is, in the end, when the next story line comes along it is forgotten and the fresh title takes control.

Very few games actually stick with me any more.

Here's the thing, I read these articles and whatnot, hear about how humanity is going to be torn apart and when you play the game you are usually one person, maybe a handful of NPC's and you save the world and humanity from being torn apart. Never happens. Fucking catchphrases!

I want to see a game, where you play it all the way through, go through hell and back, and at the end, the world does indeed get torn apart. Humanity is sent into a spiral of hell!

Next game consists of other characters. On the other side of the world, where it may or may not have happened, depending on the calamity. Either way, there are so many different ways to freshen up a, well, otherwise milked product and characters.

I'll stop my (diatribe?) post here. Commence discussion and let us get the ball rolling!

In other words I want to see risky moments in games that will **** off, make sad, and really toss to and fro with the player's emotions.
