>>> Reputation - Should we Reset it?

For the new version of the board, should we reset rep so it has meaning?

In the words of the great William Wallace, " You can take our lives, but never take our rep points!" :D & If this is my last post with my last breath I'd yell, "FREEONES!"

Reset, institute a time delay between when you can rep someone(week or two) rather than the current "Have to rep others" system. Cap power at like 3 or 5. Give me a puppy.

Hey everyone, I'm someone who's been here for a couple months and has less than 300 posts. I just wanted to say that rep is useless and we should reset it. Fuck the long standing members who think otherwise.

Sincerely,
soon to be absent member

Damn!
I've just seen I've Rep Power: 0

I don't know why I should earn these points (their use), I really don't care about this feature anywhere I go.
They wont give Veronika Zemanová back (she just does what she wants).

Perhaps would be better to change it with Grades given by "time expended", "thanked" and "posts". It's almost the same funny method; otherwise, you could add a "Game Zone" where we could pay/gain points for playing sexy flash games.

Just an idea, although I find "Rep. Points" useless.
 FYI, your rep doesn't show up until you get 100 posts.

But whatever, that doesn't change the fact that you obviously know what's what.

how is it a gauge of what people like? i could rep someone everday on every post they have giving them an uber reb...how does that helpn you know what people want.....bullshit :)
Yep, I just love repping people for random crap posts for the hell of it. In fact, I'm repping you for this one.

There's limitations and the amount of rep I can give, which makes me more selective of who I give it to. Oftentimes when I give someone rep it also represents 10 other posts from that member which I think are brilliant but I am unable to rep.

I love my new way of enjoying FreeOnes. I can't give no more Rep, and any rep I happen to get does not show.

It IS some sort of bliss, and you should try to not look at the reputation points anymore, that is like teenagers sitting in the pub discussing how much Charisma Points their knight has in Dragons & Dungeons.

If you need further explanation:

Points do not make you any more awesome (or pathetic). They can be fun, and they do not really matter, except if you choose to depend on them.

Here's a question for you. When we go to the new version of the board, should we reset repuation to 0?

Don't worry. As of this moment, there are absolutely ZERO plans to reset it so don't freak out.

The reason I'm asking this question is because I've been working with the programmer who maintains the board to get the new version set up. Right now reputation means nothing, except for some myFreeOnes points in the beginning, and has become over inflated. If certain members who have a really high rep give a new member rep, then they could possibly have the same amount of rep of someone who has been around awhile.

So my question to you is...should we leave it the way it is? Just a fun little game that means absolutely nothing?

Or should we reset it to 0 and add checks, balances, and privilages that come with having a high reputation?

Again...just because I'm asking these questions DOES NOT mean we're actually going to reset it. :)

NOTE: If you have an opinion but don't want to vote for fear of sounding silly about your opinion, please feel free to PM it to me. I already think rep is silly, so frankly, your opinion can't get any more silly than that. ;-) I'm also open to suggestions for alternatives to reputation that you might have seen elsewhere!

I have never really taken that much notice of rep other than the comments I have received from people repping a post of mine. It's nice to know why someone has repped a post, so I always feel it's nice to try and say something when repping back (if the mood takes me). And I'd like to keep those comments accumulated thus far, if you decide to reset.

As for how much rep power, yes, I think that should be reset and maybe a re-think as to the way in which rep works. Rep should be 1 rep = 1 rep point rather than this 10% or 20% of your rep power nonsense.

:2 cents:

changed to what ?
Not going to repeat myself having posted only a few posts earlier \ http://board.freeones.com/showpost.php?p=5577618&postcount=86 \\

Rep is a useful tool to tell posters what you do and do not like. I do not give out rep for much - maybe a picture set that I particularly enjoy, or a good point made in a discussion. Negative rep only ever comes into play when I am attacked for a post or an opinion. Generally, the total rep is a good indicator of a the poster, but not always.
In general I like the idea of rep, but it does need an overhaul. There have been some good ideas - capping of rep "power" (the amount of rep given/taken by an individual) is a good idea, otherwise rep starts to go logarithmic and meaningless.

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
If you go that route I might suggest, if possible, that you make it so the people that thank a person or like the post don't show up unless something is clicked to make it so. That way threads don't become twice as long listing all the people that liked the post under where that post is at. At some messageboards it has a way of getting out of hand.

This is a good point. I mod on a board that uses a thank you system, and even one thank you, adds an inch to the size of the post. If you would like to see it Petra, let me know, I'll pm you the site, or take a screen cap and send it to you.

I would also like to point out, you all reset it once before, why would this time, give it any more of a meaning, then the last time. No matter what you do, it will get abused a little bit.

Maybe there's a thumbs up/thumbs down option/application for the board?

Maybe just leave the rep alone, and when the end of the world comes...the member with the most rep, gets to break every single rule, in one post!

When I Started, I Didn't Fully Understand "REP", And Thought Kinda Of Silly & Dumb, But When You Hunt For A Pic Set Or Video, That Hasn't Been Posted Before, And You Post In The Correct Thread And Someone Commends That You Did It Right By A "PM" Or "Rep", It Is Gratifying That You Did It RIGHT!! I Have Went Through One Reset I Know Of, Maybe 2. It's A Bummer When Instead Of Checking A Thread For Prior Posts, Models, Bikini's, Lingerie, etc. Just To Post & Post The Same Thing Over & Over, Just Doesn't Get It With Me. Just My :2 cents:

i feel the same way,i have asked questions from babes to computer issues to trying to find out the name of a tv show to the name of an old old horror movie. the help that comes with the answers is great and deserves +rep.
and i give it.
PLUS sometimes it starts a convo on that specific question.
the horror movie question went from a simple Q then A ... to a 2 page thread maybe (not much i know) but a bunch of different people commented on the movie, the scariness, their own stories from seeing it. it was nice, fun and nobody was bitching about this or that.
i think the REP system needs to be fine tuned especially if there is people getting 1 million in under a year or people losing 4.5 million in one quick swoop
i dont care either way,i did vote to reset.CHANGE IS ALWAYS GOOD
if you have 0rep,+100rep or +1000000rep the sun still is going to rise tomorrow and you still have to go about your day, work, pay bills, make decisions, help kids with homework, cook dinner...ETC,ETC.
fresh start never hurt anyone :2 cents:
