:confused: Conservatives are the ones that have been preaching about the literal interpertation and orginal intent of the Constitution for some time...now they want to change it because it does not fit their view point.

Also considering that Congress needs I believe 2/3rds to enact a Constitutional Amendment...good luck Republicans, it will never get done.

And, there....it.....is! All the truth this thread needs in two sentences. I used to be a conservative, so you can't bullshit me with the typical conservative lines. I've used them too many times myself. The current crop of Republican hacks is more interested in fearmongering propaganda then in serving the Constitutional principles that not too long ago, they said they stood up for. And they know, hell we all know, that they will never get the votes they need. So what is any of this but a complete waste of our governments time, something that conservatives used to be dead-set against?

^^ We're beating a dead horse here. They're trying to amend the Constitution. The 14th amendment would be changed, thus that part would no longer be applicable. Sometimes that is necessary. Not everything written during the 18th century is applicable to the present time. If that were the case, we'd still have slaves and count African Americans as 3/5 of a person.

I highly doubt that our founding fathers wrote the 14th amendment with the current immigration problem in mind. Change, yes we can! :rolleyes:
 
I also find it funny that these same types rabidly defend the second amendment, but that's Ok, I guess. I suppose that we are supposed to just pick and choose which constitutional rights we should have based on the whims of one political party.

This is not just hypocrisy, it's insanity.

Well, while we are at it I think that they need to repeal the third amendment.

Let's see how much Americans "support our troops" when they are sleeping on your couch and mooching off your stuff.

True. It's a moot issue now but contrary to how that clause has been portrayed, the purposes of it was for electoral and representative enumeration.

Northerners didn't want blacks to count at all since they weren't voters and the southerners want blacks counted fully...3/5s count was the compromise.:2 cents:

You have a point.

But when Conservatives for the majority are preaching orginal intent and literal translation of the Constitution and then want to amend it to fit their needs...you can see why I consider it to be hypocrisy.

I am all for them to try the Amendment process...I just know that they will never get the 2/3rds needed.

Yeah, I stayed awake in history class too. :tongue: It was my favorite subject next to English. My overall point though was that parts of the Constitution have been changed before. It's important to do so when change is necessary.

I'd better stop now though. If I keep saying change, I might end up living in the White House...
 
Andronicus Ry, the right to own slaves was never a constitutional amendment and was thus never overturned by a repeal. Whose the one beating a dead horse here?

But I agree with you about repealing all the laws from the 18th century.



Good thing that the 14 amendment was written in the 19th century.
