rep question

In several instances I have given negative rep where I have felt it necassary. But is there anything that can be done in instances where the person recieving the rep, has fired back with it, if only because "Youve done it to me, Ill do it to you"

I can take negative rep myself, obviously not everyone will agree with whatever we might say, but I dont think its fair when rep suffers for anothers immaturity.

It's a good question (not about anything actually IMPORTANT, but still, a good question). I have had that happen to me once. I've only neg-repped maybe 3 times ever, total. But one guy didn't like it and so returned fire almost immediately.

The problem is, how to draw the line between someone giving out neg rep for legitimate reasons and one giving it out SOLELY for revenge??

What if the initial negative rep is given for bogus reasons? If someone gives me neg rep just because they strongly disagree w/ me about something, or they think I'm a dick because of my viewpoint, would a revenge neg-rep be warranted or justified? I'd say yes - in THAT particular kind of case.

Maybe, if revenge neg-rep is a serious problem (and I don't think it is), perhaps there should be some "cooling-off period" after the initial neg-rep is issued, where neither party can rep the other negatively. That way, only the worst of the worst a-holes will hold a long-term grudge about it and still give neg rep, but if one has truly been wronged, then maybe it makes sense to mark one's calendar and neg rep he/she who wrongly neg-repped you in the first place... I dunno.

It's just rep. Nice to have (for some), but ultimately of little consequence, right?

true like in the monsters of cock thread i commented on how funny it is being posted in the facial thread and some guy posted an angry rep comment.

lol

I've had that happen to me a number of times. The one solace is that the person who gives you neg rep for no reason other than that you gave it to them is usually some fucktard who doesn't last long on the board anyway.

I probbly wouldn't give negative rep back unless i thought they agve it to me for no reason but if some one gave me good rep id find a post of theirs that is good to give rep 2 cause im a good bloke :)

They probably won't last long on the board, but the rep decrease that you suffered still stands. I've had several fuckwads give me negative rep because I post something that they don't like, even if it's a legitimate point of view that I have. For example, some fucktard gave me negative rep because I posted on a thread that I prefer to see a girl with natural boobs rather than one with implants. :wtf:

As I've mentioned before I think the neg rep option should be done away with. I'm surprised I'm the only one that seems to champion this considering how regularly it's abused and all the bad blood that creates :dunno:

I hadn't thought of that, but, now that you mention it, I will stand as a supporter for your cause!

instead of giving red light, write a pm. you reach more (if you're able to argue) and you won't earn red lights back.

imo, the red lights and back-to-zero actions should be used only by the moderators.

I really don't care if I get neg rep back...I get quite a bit of rep anyway, so I'll earn it back in a day or two.

Reputation is made up of many things.

You need X rep to actually affect other people's rep. You need X posts before your rep shows up. You gain rep per X amount of posts, per X amount of time spent being a member of Freeones, ect, ect.

If you participate and contribute on the board, rep will come. Unlike us poor mods and admins who will be forever stuck at 10. :D
