Remember Them Now

Indeed. People take themselves so seriously that sometimes you just need to stand up and say something completely stupid and hopefully funny. It's kind of the equivalent of Poggy1 saying 'STOP DOING THIS REPOST SH!T! G_D-FRICKIN-DAAAMN!' but with none of that confrontation BS involved. :)

Hmmm.....

When did I enter this arguement ?

Why did I get pulled into this arguement ?

If you are going to quote me at least get it right!

But as is now your repeat pattern you make a post just to argue with someone. Not by any chance related to Fox are you ?

Wait a minute, wait a minute... just consider this for a moment: members going off-topic in a thread that I'm posting in... and it isn't me!

My turn:

Thanks for the back-up, Poggy. :hatsoff:

Ernest Borgnine
Born January 24, 1917, in Hamden, Connecticut, he is a recipient of an Academy Award for "Best Actor" in 1955 for his performance in the motion picture Marty.
Having served his country in the U.S. Navy for ten years (1935-1945), and then subsequently enjoyed great sucess as both a motion picture and television actor, he is perhaps best remembered for his work in the titular role of the American televison situation comedy McHale's Navy (1962-1966).

I would like to add the comedic talent of actor Gene Wilder. I think many people have forgotten him, but this guy had such a wit and comic timing about him, and an over-the-top intensity at times that made his performances quite memorable. Think about just the movies he did with Mel Brooks (Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein) and you can remember how good he was.

But then you start going through the list of some of his other movies, and it reminds you how popular he was for a time. Stir Crazy, See no Evil,Hear no Evil, The Producers, The World's Greatest Lover, Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother, The Frisco Kid, and of course- Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Hats off, Gene, for bravely getting through your wife's death from cancer, and survivng Lymphoma yourself. Writer, actor, and composer- truly a master.

Well said, Hedonis!
Gene (b. Jerome Silberman, June 11, 1933, Milwaukee, Wisconsin) truly provided much entertainment to audiences everywhere with his great talent that was only further enhanced by his zany appearance! And to reiterate, one cannot over look the personal challenges that this man has endured and the many efforts he has made since in promoting awareness and treatment of the disease that took the life of his wife, Gilda Radner.
Yes, nice job, all around, Gene!

:)

I like this thread a lot- just have to think of some others that are worthy of the honor. Thanks, Dr. Motorcity.

The title of this thread is "Remember Them Now."
Seems to me this post would have been better received in the "ID" section.

Good choices on Borgnine and Wilder!

But after all the actors I'd like to give you someone of another preofession:

Edward Albee

He taught me all about the pugilistic nature of marriage in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (vivdly portrayed on film by Richard Burton and Liz Taylor); he explored the absurd depths of human existence in The Zoo Story and the hilarious American Dream; and he made me angry (even though the story might actually not be true....) with The Death of Bessie Smith.

A wise man who never sought the limelights. He has always spoken through his works. And what good things he has had to say!

I can think of many. Though I do not know their names.

Go to Africa and visit any rural hospital and visit the 'wards' with the dieing mothers and their children who will not be with us much longer due to acquiring AIDS through no faults of their own.

Go to Iraq and visit those innocent families that are about to go out shopping and will soon have their limbs blown apart from a bomb.

Go to any number of places in the world and visit those that have known almost continual pain and misery and yet never hurt their fellow man/woman and who will die soon.

I agree that this is a good idea for a thread. Well done Dr. Motorcity.

But while we are praising those that are famous and/or rich and/or powerful; maybe we could spare a thought for those that never have been and never will be. And who know more about pain and misery then most of us could probably even imagine.

I do. I think the majority of people on this board do. Loads of the threads end up on the subject of the worlds suffering (look at the war threads)

But this one has been added purely for the rich/famous/powerful/etc, and i see no problem with that.

I simply wished to add to those who were very fortunate, a thought for those less so.

And I see no problem with that.

And to add a celebs name...Eddie Vedder.
Though I don't think he'll be dead for some time. But being a rock star - you never know.
