Relax. Our firearms are still safe from being seized.

When President Obama took office, gun rights advocates sounded the alarm, warning that he intended to strip them of their arms and ammunition.

And yet the opposite is happening. Mr. Obama has been largely silent on the issue while states are engaged in a new and largely successful push for expanded gun rights, even passing measures that have been rejected in the past.

In Virginia, the General Assembly approved a bill last week that allows people to carry concealed weapons in bars and restaurants that serve alcohol, and the House of Delegates voted to repeal a 17-year-old ban on buying more than one handgun a month. The actions came less than three years after the shootings at Virginia Tech that claimed 33 lives and prompted a major national push for increased gun control.

Arizona and Wyoming lawmakers are considering nearly a half dozen pro-gun measures, including one that would allow residents to carry concealed weapons without a permit. And lawmakers in Montana and Tennessee passed measures last year — the first of their kind — to exempt their states from federal regulation of firearms and ammunition that are made, sold and used in state. Similar bills have been proposed in at least three other states.

If you don't like firearms stay away from them. Have nothing to do with them. It's been said over and over and over. I don't see why people want to take something away from someone else all because they don't like it. I hate a lot of things but I am not pushing for a ban and strip it away from the people who like it.

Though I am bit concerned about the needing a permit to conceal being done away, possibly, in Arizona and Wyoming. I feel there should be a permit needing to conceal.

Anyways, it's been shown example after example what happens when the law abiding citizens get their personal protection taken away. Crime skyrockets because just because there is a ban and law against no firearms, doesn't mean that is going to be the only law a criminal will follow.

If you own a firearm: be responsible with it! It's not a toy!

Also, buy knives, learn how to effectively use them. They can be better in some cases than a firearm. :hatsoff:

I'm playing Devil's Advocate here, strictly for the most obvious response I can see to this (note: I'm pretty undecided about guns in general. I think they're fairly unnecessary and we'd be better off without, but here they are and here they'll stay): tell that to someone getting shot!

The thing about guns is that you can't outrun bullets. Back in the States, the news (for what little it's worth) would be filled with numerous shootings. Here in the UK, I mostly see/read about stabbings. Frankly, I feel safer here, because I can physically deal with a knife. I can run, or I can kick the shit out of my attacker, or I can simply look physically imposing enough not to be bothered in the first place (because if you're attacking someone with a knife, you have to take into account their size and stature - guns, on the other hand, level all those things).

But, that's here. I don't see guns going anywhere in the States, so this post is really neither here nor there. My two cents, I guess.

And that's why you're not American.

Guns are unnecessary today. It ain't the 1800s pioneer days where there were no police and where animals and "natives" were real threats to people.

I would ban all rifles from private ownership. I would limit the amount of bullets a handgun can fire. Limit it to 5.

And, I would mandate that all guns must be housed offsite at private gun clubs.

I would also have the National Endowment of the Arts become an org with the power to remove gun violence from art/tv/movies/games if it does nothing more than glorify a criminal lifestyle (i.e. Tony Montana, gangsta rap). :hatsoff:

Basically, we need to remove the lifestyle element to guns to guns somehow....:dunno:

Why ban rifles ? That's the least likely firearm to be "dangerous" or to be used as a weapon against another human being.. at least on the civil front ... and yet you would allow minimum capacity handguns ? Please explain that one ?

The only reason a person needs a rifle is for hunting. There isn't much sport in hunting if some guy can climb in a tree, under full camo, and pick off animals from 500 yards away.

Return the SPORT in hunting. We do need hunting for critter control. We can ban valuable animal hunting--like wolf hunting, buffalo hunting--or limit it to one season every 20 years or something, until populations return.

Return the SPORT in hunting---make hunting a bow/arrow only sport, just like in the days of England back in the early days :hatsoff:

I want to ban semi-automatic rifles and sniper rifles and shotguns from private ownership. So, why not just ban all rifles instead of pick and choose?

It's the guns the other guys have which are the problem. If they're out there how can you have nothing to do with them or stay away from them?

Reading posts from gun enthusiasts it's pretty clear to me that their guns ARE toys.Just like cars and motorcycles are to many people.Something to play with .

As for knives, what sort of place do you live in where you can even think like that?Do you seriously feel threatened enough to go around armed?Even the police here prefer not to be armed although in some isolated cases it's necessary and even then only specially trained officers are allowed weapons.

More BS and malarkey. At least the lie was worth it to float ammo manufacturers through the recession.

Reminds me of a guy who worked for me at NASA DFR. The guy would spend his last penny and borrow another on ammo... He commuted from Apple Valley to Edwards AFB (about 80 mi. 1 way) daily and without fail would spend all week whining about not having gas money.

what about collecting for historical purposes? all my guns are 66 years or older. they're also fun to take to the range just fire and show off.

hunting isn't the only thing guns are still needed for.

No, liberals are unnecessary ! :1orglaugh

Let me ask you, when was the last time you have heard or read of a story about a law abiding citizen using their personal firearm to prevent a crime against their person and / or another ? I doubt that you ever have, therefore, the mindset of guns being evil and unnecessary was built upon a false premise... only the bad guys have guns !
You see, the pricks who use guns in the commission of a crime do so with complete disrespect for the value of human life, having said that, the law abiding citizen must retain the mechanism and / or means for which to defend himself or herself, otherwise evil triumphs over the good and we can't have that !

The shooter recently in the Littleton town shooting had a bolt action rifle and only got off two rounds, and only injured two people. Facetious, we had just hope our friend Tits doesn't get his way, 'cause you and I know better. Oh, and so does Bree Olson and Jane B!:

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
I will NEVER relax my attitude towards my mistrust of this, and EVERY politicians, or political administrations attitude towards ANY increase in gun laws. The only reason to restrict private ownership of any firearm, is to control a populace...the politicians could care less about the safety of the people. When they pass a firearms law, or any law for that matter, it's for their benefit, and ONLY their benefit. NEVER rest on your laurels...they count on your indifference, and slacker attitude, to sneak things past us.

I own guns, I own rifles. I am not the person people need to worry about.
Even if you banned all guns, the wrong people will still get a hold of them

To be honest, I was never afraid of anyone trying to seize my firearms.

I have no time for baseless fear.

Love the Franklin quote. Where did you find it?

I'm not sure the quote is accurate according to the one I'm familiar with. I suppose if you re-read it, the quote doesn't make much sense as it's quoted there.:2 cents:

I think we should go back to one shot, powder firearms. To hell with these hand guns and rifles. I want my derringer and blunderbuss back!

Obama isn't going to ban guns or do anything that stupid even though some far lefties in his cabal might want to do just that. The President realizes that to seriously go after guns = losing the next election.
I collect rifles myself, mostly infantry light weapons from the Cold War days. I have a L1A1, East German Ak-47, Mauser 98K, AR-15, and G3.

try having guns in Canada we have to have a gun licence along with our outdoors card and regester all of our long guns so that the feds know what we have and if you want a hand gun HA HA you need a restricted license and you need to be a member of a gun club, you can only shoot hand guns at the club and you have to tell the pollice when and where you are going shooting before you even leave the house
and they say i live in a free country

gun control works just ask the experts such as...
