So let me get this right. If your slightly over weight you can't rap.So what about some of the originals like Queen Latifah,The Fat Boys,Grandmaster Flash these were all not to slim. But all was great artists and really knew how to put a show on.The Beastie Boys was the most unfitest rappers ever by their own words. But they put on some of the greastest shows ever.

Once again, I never said Biggie couldn't rap because of his weight. He just sounds like he is out of breath when he flows for over 10 seconds. Why did he run out of breath? I have no idea, maybe it was his weight, maybe it was that he just plain couldn't flow as good as those like Tupac could.Hell at one point in time when Dre was begining his solo away from NWA he was chubby as hell. I also pointed out I like Ice Cube, he isn't exactly slim.

BTW- The Fat Boys sucked. The other overweight rappers you listed are cool and talented. One of my favorite rappers is Fat Joe. I also like Faryser Boy from Memphis, everyone will see him during the Grammy's. Frayser Boy is overweight but can flow like the mighty Mississippi.

God rest his soul, but Biggie wasn't the master of flowing. He did have some pretty cool hooks though.

This little line here is not only the worst bit of rap but the problem too.I was never a fan of gangsta rap as it only has a bad outlook on the world. It's all about guns, drugs and crime and is why in my opinion one the reason rap's in such a poor state it's in at the moment. There's been some great rappers in gangsta rap,but all they ever do is whinge, moan or promote crime. You soon bore of them as there rap is always the same old, same old.

True all that Gangsta Rappers do is promote crime but what else were they used to growing up? Hell this is a porno board. All porno is is sex in some shape form or fashion over and over again. However new stars come along and make it exciting. Porn lets the world know how enjoyable sex is. Gangsta rap lets the world know that there are struggles in America.

Gangsta rap helped wake up America that there is a problem. It inspired movies such as Colors, Boyz in Da Hood, and Menace II Society. It also promotes neighborhoods which can positively benefit from acknowledgement. Over half of us would have never heard of Compton, CA if it weren't for NWA, Ice T, and DJ Quick. Houston's 5th Ward was announced to the country by Scarface and the Geto Boys. All my rappers from Memphis have put our neighborhood's on the map. Now that people are aware of these type of communities some have tried to help build them up by adding community centers, parks, and other things. Gangsta Rap really can't duplicate what it did in the 90's but it did help announce to the world that we had a major society problem in our streets. It was somewhat a cry out for help in a manly way.

Ice T was around a 5 - 10 years before gangsta rap.He just changed his style when it came along.

All very true.

Many forms of music however, bring to light social problems. I used like Gangsta Rap for this, especially west coast rap, but now that I look back, it also helped spawn some of the violence and hate that it was bringing to light.
Rap still does this for our communities, but not as negatively as Gangsta Rap did.

It's good to be the king...
Just seen Jeffrey Daniels (of Shalamar, no less) doing his body popping moves for "A Night to Remember" on a Top of the Pops archive show (it was originally shown in 1982).
It still looked good (and his stuff was better than MJ's moonwalk, imo)

Well since we are supposed to chose from those four, I would have to say Dr.Dre. Dj Yella is directing porn, I saw him two years ago on playboy tv, I think it was Lexington Steele show where he came out.

The original Posters Poll is very misleading. It would appear that it is open to Rap in general but by it only listing N.W.A. members, one could assume the poll is directed toward N.W.A. but if that is/was the case, why the "Other" option?

Either way, I give it up to those that paved the road for Rap back in the days of the earliest form of Rap. I just find it hard to say someone had a bigger impact and/or is more recognizable then 2Pac.

2Pac played both sides of the line, on one track he may have went all out and laid down a "Gangsta Track" yet he would turn around and put something down that addressed the issues at the time.

2Pac's name transcends rap, nearly everyone in todays time has heard about 2Pac in one form or another... whether their a Rap fan or not. I do find it odd that 90% of the time, you ask someone "Who is the greatest rapper of all time?" and they are quick to jump in with "2Pac!", yet they cannot list a reason, but, whatever.

Whatever the case may be, Pac had a little for everyone. His name lives on 10 years after his untimely demise. People still crave the unreleased material. Pac was a work-a-holic, shelling out dozens of songs a day and the majority of them don't even sound a bit like they was rushed. Pac had passion, not just passion to MAKE music, but passion FOR music. That's what ALOT of todays rappers lack.

In today's time, it seems that anyone can be a platinum selling rapper as long as they are willing to sell their self to a Big Record Label that has the influence in Music to push their "Club Hits." Then they rely on making songs solely about going to the club, driving the most expensive cars, having the most "Ice" and about "Hoes."

I refuse to listen to "Mainstream" rap now-a-days... it's all the same. You got the "In Da Club" songs, the "Laffy Taffy" songs, it's not about lyrical content anymore, it's simply about what's catchy. Awell.

Now I would have to say, one of the most slept on Rappers in today's time would have to be Tech N9ne *Shameless Plug* He has an unbelieveable ability to rhyme. A quote from QDII (A Producer who worked with Pac on several ocassions) "I still think Tech can be as big as Pac, people just have to come into his world."

Haven't heard of Tech? Go listen to songs like:
"This Ring"
"Industry Is Punks"
"F.T.I." (Fuck The Industry; was a campaign he ran back in '02, allowing you to DL his album for Free, around the same time that the RIAA was running their campaign telling you not to. The sells of his album went up by 300% in the first Three Weeks of the campaign)
"Worst Enemy"
"Twisted" (ft. Roger Troutman)
"Mitchell Bade" (ft. Bakarii)
"Now It's On" (ft. Lejo)
"Questions" (was on the Gang Related OST :))
"Be Jealous"
"The Grench" (ft. Big Krizz Kaliko and Boy Big)
"Beef" (ft. Big Krizz Kaliko)
"Snake Ya" (ft. Big Krizz Kaliko) (this & Beef both from the Beef OST)
"Suicide Letters"

That's just the tip of the Iceburg. Some of you may have even already heard a song of his. "The Beast" was on Madden '06 (though, EA or whoever had a hayday editing it, they edited stuff that makes no sense in being edited  )

A sidenote, Tech is Co-Owner of Strange Music Ent. which is a sublabel of MSC Ent. which is Owned by Dave Weiner & Mark Cerami... some of you might recognize Mark ;)

Look out for Tech's next album; "Everready: The Religion" which should be out in the near future as it is in the finalization stages (Mixing, Artwork, etc.) and has features such as Brotha Lynch, Eminem & Twista. The Virus known as Tech N9ne is spreading...

Here's just a quick little something for ya:
Tech N9ne - E.P.K. 2006 (A Video) Electronic Press Kit

Ok... I'll end my shameless plug. *Walks nervously into the corner as eveyone stares at him...*

PS You Pac fans might recognize the name Tech N9ne... "Thugs Get Lonely Too" ring any bells? ;)

Haha, it wasn't THAT great. I'll be the first to admit it went from being a decent post to being a Promo for Tech N9ne.

I tend to wander off into the subject of Tech N9ne whenever I get into a discussion about Music. I think it's just the fact that I am a fan... and him being a local Rapper & all. Just trying to help spread his talent into the hands of many.

I'll tell ya now, I am a big Tech & Pac fan. I feel they are two of the best if not the Best in their own right. Then again, I may be a little bias.

Fact remains, Pac is known by literly everyone. Yes, the Eminem's & 50 Cent's of the world are aswell, but I tend to dispise these as they are just your typical Mainstream Rappers. Though, I do have alot more respect for Eminem then 50 Cent. You don't wanna get me started on 50. :angels:
