Q&A With Me, Holly Rydem! (AMA)

Re: Q&A With Me, Holly Rydem!

That sounds like fun... nothing crazy like that happens around here. Where are you from?

a small town in south central alaska...memorial day, 4th of july and labor day are the three big party holidays of the summer, lots of camping, fishing, beer drinking and the like. lots of people travel down here from the rest of the state for mini vacations on those weekends so it usually get's pretty mobbed. they pull state troopers in from other parts of the state too for those times. good times though.

Funny, my favorite kind of muffin is Holly.

Re: Q&A With Me, Holly Rydem!

I always like banana nut muffins better than blueberry because while blueberry muffins sound good in theory usually when I eat them I can hardly sense any actual blueberry flavor at all while banana nut muffins actually taste like they have bananas and nuts in them.

I think it still comes around, but not on Memorial day anymore. I can't seem to remember them cancelling it, just changing sponsors and dates...I know the drivers loved the track.

Sadly, the Grand Prix of Cleveland got cancelled after the 2007 run. You're probably thinking of the race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car course in Lexington, or maybe a smaller series still runs a race at Burke Lakefront now. But CART went bankrupt in 2003. Then Champ Car took over the race, but it got taken over by the IRL in '08 and the IRL never could make a deal to run in Cleveland. Real shame too. I loved the track because it was flat, so no matter where you sat in the stands, you could see most of the track and the action. The first time I saw Alex Zanardi was there. And he came up from near the back of the field to the front like a hot knife through butter. Great stuff!

Holly, what's the downtown area called where the restaurants and bars are? A really cool cab driver took me down there and guaranteed that I'd have a good time - and she was right. From that day on, I've liked Cleveland.

I think you're talking about the West Bank of the Flats. Do remember what bars were in the area? If it's not that, it's probably W. 6th Street.

The Flats. That sounds familiar. Did that area go through "urban renewal" back in the early-mid 90's? Sorry, can't remember any of the bars or restaurants. I just remember that it used to be a run down area and then they got businesses, bars and restaurants to move in. I used to have to go to Toledo a lot. And I always liked going to Cleveland a lot more than Toledo. Plus, I hear that girls in Cleveland like to put butter on their muffins. Kinky! :D

Yep... definitely The Flats. I went to Toledo recently... what a shitty, run-down city. I'd be scared to walk down the street by where I was. Every single house was falling apart or boarded-up. I even saw a boarded-up house that the owner had spray painted to say "Come back, I'll kill you." lol

"Come back, I'll kill you", huh? Well, at least they gave them a warning. :D

Ya know, I've driven through the rougher areas of lots of cities. But there were parts of Toledo that gave even me a bad feeling. There are/were parts of D.C. and Richmond that you don't want to be in after dark. But I was warned to stay out of some sections of Toledo during the day! When I had to be in that area overnight, I always stayed down the road in Perrysburg. There was nothing to do there, but at least it seemed relatively safe.

But I want to go back to Cleveland at some point to see how the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has changed since the last time I was there. That was a pretty cool experience too.

Ya, the Rock Hall is really cool. Even though I only live 15 minutes away, I've only been there once... I definitely need to go again. I went during the John Lennon exhibit, which was awesome! If you do come to Cleveland, you'll have to check out the Science Center and casino too.

What's up Holly ! Sorry if you already answered this somewhere else in the forum, but do you drink alcoholic beverages, and, if so, what's your top 5 favorite drinks !!

Hey! I'm quite a fan of drinking haha :D My all time fav. drink is Cherry Three Olives (straight or mixed with pretty much any juice), liquid marijuana (Captain Morgan, Blue Curacao, melon liqueur, and pineapple juice), margaritas, Twisted Tea, and Bud Light.
