In the ps3 guide that I have, it states the the "copyrighted blu ray discs can only output at 1080p using an hdmi cable connected to a device that is compatible with the hdcp standard." My question is simple. I have a sony plasma t.v. that is a 1080i/p, will I be able to watch these dvd's, and if so, what will I need? I do have an hdmi input on my t.v.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I dunno if you're not taking it in all at once, but.. like you said, it can only output at 1080i using the HDMI cable. If you dont have that, itll still do hi-resolution.. just not at 1080i. Also, I imagine the games would be held to the same rule.
But..the higher the resolution, the more of a performance hit it takes. So.. I dont think every last game.. especially at launch.. will support 1080i.
Just buy the HDMI cord, plug it into both devices, TV and PS3 and if tradition proves to be correct.. start up the PS3 and in the 'dashboard' or whatever you want to call it, you should look for options relating to the resolution and HD capabilities you want to enable.
Check the menu of your plasma TV as well, you might want to put it into a different 'mode', as well. On mine it has such things as work/games/movies settings, color temperature.. colorstream/DVD and so forth. Watch the black level (play a movie and see if its too bright, if shadows are black or grey.. shiny or dull.. blah blah, change it to your liking, bro.) If you're happy with a generic setting, go right ahead.. but I'm a control freak and I like different color/brightness profiles for whatever I'm watching or playing. And for that matter.. you have a plasma TV, but do you have a decent surround sound reciever and speakers? How many watts? ARE YOU TRULY READY?!?!? heh
