PS3 disc drive fucked?

I dunno what's going on. I put a disc in and it won't read it. It'll eject just fine, but won't read the fucking thing. And not all games at that either. I had been playing driver SF and then today it just stopped recognizing the disc. Also wouldn't read my GoW disc, but MAG was read right away and loaded up no problems. So...what's the fuckin deal? Is there a way to force the fuckin disc to play?

I'm really gonna be pissed if my PS3 goes the way my 360 did. And it's starting to look that way. 360 first starts to freeze every once in awhile, then all the time, then to the point I can no longer play discs. Arcade games froze all the time and it got to the point netflix wouldn't even work. PS3 is doing the same shit in the same order. Games are starting to freeze more often, at least netflix still works for now.

Soon to be the proud owner of 2 paper weights, sad to say...

I can relate. I bought an xbox360 Slim two months ago and the damn thing never worked. Switched it for another and this one won't play games either. I'm not familiar with PS3's. They must have a support line or something to help out. But again if it's like the xbox the support staff is useless.

It sounds like the laser/reader in your PS3 must be wearing out. My buddy has a similar situation with his XBOX 360. Certain game will work fine, but others won't read at all.

I had a similar situtation way back in the day with my PS2. The discs with the blue bottoms to them, didn't work, but the one's with the silver bottoms worked fine. My buddies cousin did something to the laser/reader and it worked fine after that before it finally crashed years later.

I'm just thinking its the laser/reader wearing out, but I'm not an expert.

Yeah,sounds like you have a bad Bluray lazer and it's not reading properly.

Do you by chance have the fat or slim model? If you have the fat one,I would seriously suggest getting a slim.I haven't heard one single complaint of hardware failure yet,and if you do have the slim,you would be the first that I've personally heard.

exactly, like I'm ever gonna fill it up. Anyway, so I looked up some options for how to fix my problem. I assume it has something to do with the disc drive weather it be the laser or the drive it's self. Either way, all the links say I have 3 options:

send to sony for $150, I assume I'm out of warranty? I dunno it's been over a year. So...fuck that!

Take it to a repair shop, still damn near $100, so again, fuck that!

or get the sony repair manual so I can take the thing apart myself just to clean some fucking dust off my lens to see if that fixes the problem. Even that cost money.

But none of the links show how to take the damn thing apart. I took apart my 360 once following a vid on youtube and cleaned all the dust out of that, and it didn't fix shit! Good thing I looked it up as I would have broken the thing otherwise, I assume the same would hold true for the PS3 as well. I guess tomorrow I'll look up a vid and take the fucker apart. I can't have a console freezing up for whatever reason as I really don't have the patients for that shit! Eventually will lead to another busted tv, this time from having a controller launched through the screen...

Never had a problem with any of my consoles. From NES all the the way through PS2, then you get into the 360 and PS3 days and now I've had both break down on me. WTF? Though the PS3 isn't completely shot yet, I can see it's probably not gonna last till the next, next gen come out. So yea, I'm pissed about it. But what am I gonna do? Buy a new system? Fuck no! Already had both, and both let me down. So fuck em both! When the PS3 dies, I won't be playing games till PS4 and shitbox 720 come out. Or whatever they gonna be called.
