The Second-Hottest Man in my Mother's Basement
There has been a lot of debate in Saskatchewan/Alberta about building a nuclear plant. Personally, I am all for it. Saskatchewan is the home to one of the world's largest supplies of uranium, and I think a nuclear plant would be very good for the economy here. Of course, there are a lot of people who seem to believe that "since Three Mile Island and Chernobyl had accidents, every plant will have an accident", and unfortunately to my knowledge these people have completely derailed all talks of it.

In fact the 3 mile Island and Chernobyl accidents make it less likely there will be accidents in the future.Lessons are learnt and procedures developed whenever something like this happens.

That's what I wish everyone here would realize, but no. Once one plant has an accident, it means that every other plant in the world is bound to have one eventually.

It's kind of like skydiving, really. Everyone wants to do it, but they hear one story on how a parachute didn't open and suddenly they are afraid it is going to happen to them.

Solar & wind energy are nice and cool but when you calculate how many solar collectors or wind turbines you would need to have in order to meet the current energy consumption, you cannot avoid the conclusion that satisfying all our energy needs with wind and solar power is simply not feasible.

I'm curious. How many solar collectors or wind turbines would it take?

Since you have already done the calculation, what time period did you use to calculate the levelized costs?

What conversion efficiency did you assume? What was the resulting surface area utilized?

Thanks.
