Probably the most racist thread ever

From an evolutionary standpoint (or if you want to, even theologians are welcomed) why do you think we have different colored skin? Different almost anything!? Why do asian people have slightly more slanted eyes? (seriously not trying to sound racist, just wondering on the theories as to how this happened).

For me, the darker colored skins and lighter colored skins came about because of where humans migrated. Some stayed in the warmer temperatures and they needed darker skin to protect from the UV rays while the people who ventured up north did not anymore. (I base this all off of that the first humans came from Africa).

And for the religious people, why did a God make different races of people? For christians, we're suppose to look like His image and yet, there are so many different looking people.

What do you guys think?

Because if we were all caucasian we wouldn't be able to make "all Asian people look alike" jokes?

You know why Black people are so tall? Because their knee grows.

Gotta love the classics. I think you answered your question. It's all environment. Air temperature and altitude, climate, sun ...it's all the factors. People who survived thousands of years in the mountains have bigger, strong lungs and therefor wide, stocky frames. Northern Asian migrated to the Chinese and Mongolian deserts and arctic regions...over time having narrower eyes was a beneficial trait that stuck. Genetic traits rarely stick around for no reason.

What about asians? I'm still trying to figure out their "need" to have their eyes the way they are. (god I feel like an asshole). I can't figure out a need to have those evolve the way they did

Because when you're a nomadic people trekking through the tundra or desert, having wide eyes with thin eyelids doesn't do you much good. Neither does being overly tall or having dark skin.

So they can see downwards and keep sand out their eyes.

It's generally thought humans first became more or less human around the equator. While apes have lighter skin, as we lost our hair, darker skin became the more important skin color. As has been mentioned here, darker skin is better adapted at protecting the skin from from the adverse effects of UV on the folate levels. Breeding played a large part in this. After all, which are you going to breed with: The dark-skinned guy who has evolved and adapted to the environment, or the light-skinned guy burnt to a crisp?
But, as we moved north, we found sunlight less abundant. Our skin needed to adapt, and therefor evolved to a lighter skin better to drink in the Vitamin D(3) we need.

Thats what I always figured. It was a geographical thing.

simple evolution and natural selection, let me stress the one race is not superior to the other

You can´t talk about races and humans. You can´t make a distinction between races and humans. A black man can have children with an Asian woman and vice versa. So you can´t speak of "biological" races.

You are right to an extent, but there are several instances in the animal kingdom where different species(which humans regardless of location or skin color are not) procreate with each other. Ligers, Mules, Leopons, Camas, Beefalos, etc. are all examples of hybrid species. It is rare in an uncontrolled animal environment, but it happens a good bit in controlled situations like zoos and farms. For humans though it is a bit more complex simply because we have a more complex social structure than any other animal on the planet. I could go on and on touching bases on every nook and cranny of that social structure, but I am fucking hungry and need a burger pronto!
