Prince: "The internet is dead"

Re: The Internet is Dead...According to Prince

I found a picture of something else that's been dead for quite awhile.

Re: The Internet is Dead...According to Prince

If the internet were a building, Prince would torch it. Or at minimum make a way where music couldn't be listened to or shared without the artist being directly compensated for each play. He's always been the most paranoid/possessive about his work and this is all this gripe is about IMO.

Well, that went down faster than a $2 hooker.

Prince needs to just shut the fuck up about this and realize that the industry is different. Not worse, just different. Drag your feet too long, and you'll get left behind, it's that simple.

Too bad he didn't tell us what he thinks will come after the internet. What is it going to be, the super-internet?

You know what? I'm willing to be fair and open minded. So, to you Prince fans, recommend me an album and I'll check it out. I prefer to hear complete albums instead of single songs. It helps me get a better feel for it. So let 'er rip.

Check out Dirty Mind & 1999 for the earlier stuff. I also like Sign of the Times and Parade as well. Of course Purple Rain is a classic, but it also has his most identifiable songs. Personally I would avoid LoveSexy. Anything after the Glyph period is unknown to me as I make music rather than listen to it at this point.

Prince is truly a gifted musician and songwriter. I think his point about the internet is people not relating on a one to one basis. I saw him on Jay Leno about a year ago and the dude was still kicking up a storm. I regret not seeing him in 1983, but I could not convince my parents to drive me to the show.

While I do disagree with what Prince said about the internet he's had a pretty strong career up to even now. Just because it isn't hitting the radio as much anymore doesn't mean he's done for. Radiohead is as popular as ever and I rarely hear anything other than Creep anywhere. He's still good, but still a dumb and ignorant thing to say

I think for a person to appreciate some of his work it has to be understood in the context of the guy writing, producing, singing lead, background and playing all the instruments in some of his best stuff.

Well, that still leaves a lot of choices, but thanks.
I'm looking for the best example(s) of his musicianship, not necessarily what was most 'popular' or biggest hit, top seller or any of that. I already know his hit songs and I wasn't thrilled by them, so I kinda want to avoid those (at least until later).

Agreed.

This is pretty much what one would expect from a guy who won't let Weird Al do parodies of his songs. Sad thing is, he seems like the kind of guy who could be doing something to revolutionize internet music.

@Moonchild22 - Start with Purple Rain. Imo, that was his peak.

EDIT: Just noticed that this post got me a new rank - "Knows how 2 have sex, in theory." Funny that I got it after posting a response in a Prince thread.

That wasn't said in a manner I am familiar with Prince speaking. Isn't that a tabloid? Prince IS a musical genius and as innovative as ever. He plays 32 instruments and writes, composes and performs his own music. He is an eccentric musical genius. Don't hate, besides, he (use to) get all the pussy that came his way if he wanted it, meanwhile we are here (and you are) cracking jokes at his expense on a PORN message board. Ah, yes, that's funny.
