There's one thing that scares me: Prince says the internet is dead, the Smiths said The Queen is dead, Yusuf Islam declared Tuesday's dead, while Crass decree that Punk is dead.
That can only mean ... I SEE DEAD PEOPLE!!!
Too bad he didn't tell us what he thinks will come after the internet. What is it going to be, the super-internet?
Prince is the one who is dead
You know what? I'm willing to be fair and open minded. So, to you Prince fans, recommend me an album and I'll check it out. I prefer to hear complete albums instead of single songs. It helps me get a better feel for it. So let 'er rip.
Check out Dirty Mind & 1999 for the earlier stuff. I also like Sign of the Times and Parade as well. Of course Purple Rain is a classic, but it also has his most identifiable songs. Personally I would avoid LoveSexy. Anything after the Glyph period is unknown to me as I make music rather than listen to it at this point.
Prince is truly a gifted musician and songwriter. I think his point about the internet is people not relating on a one to one basis. I saw him on Jay Leno about a year ago and the dude was still kicking up a storm. I regret not seeing him in 1983, but I could not convince my parents to drive me to the show.

I think for a person to appreciate some of his work it has to be understood in the context of the guy writing, producing, singing lead, background and playing all the instruments in some of his best stuff.
