yeah, im gonna have to agree noodles are awesome. you can do almost anythign with them. i buy them but never use to packets to make stirfrys, pancit, and chinese soups. the packets are loaded with msg and sodium, so eh. ill use soy sauce and chinese cooking wine instead.

The cheapest food would any meaty road kill. Boil in water for 4 hours and add salt.

I would have to say the best food is ambrosia.

If you find yourself in a ''When The Shit Hits The Fan'' scenario and you're reduced to yourself and your backpack, I agree with deb41 and mr. perf
rice beans and oatmeal are very important foods, if you had to you could soak the dry rice or beans overnight and eat uncooked again, if you had to.

I eat dry oatmeal raw all the time . .mostly when I'm waiting for my water to boil lol ! that shit is good for you !

ramen might taste good but it has nothing to offer the body in terms of energy.

You can go to the dollar store 'round here and get 32 oz. bags of plain spaghetti noodles at a buck a pop. That is cheap. Same size at Wal-mart is around $1.50. Saute some brocolli in butter, olive oil and garlic, add pasta and top with parmesan cheese = money.

I also got a massive 3 lb bag of russert taters at Target for $2.00. The possibilities are endless with taters. ;)

I agree wholeheartedly. I love fish and it is generally so healthy, I would eat it all the time if I could. Unfortunately, unless you're talking tuna or sardines (or some types of frozen fish) it can get pricey.

Barbecued beef or pork sandwhiches are pretty cheap for how much you get. Buy a roast of some sort, throw it in a slow cooker, add a bottle of bbq sauce (maybe half bbq half steak sauce), a tablespoon or two of vinegar, a cup of celery (optional), half a medium sized onion (optional), garlic+salt+pepper to whatever degree you like. Cook 3-4 hours, pull roast apart with some forks and pull out bones if there are any, stir it up, then cook another hour.

I think that's basically it, although I don't have my cookbook on me. I eat on that for at least a week every time even when I try to share as much as possible.

Edit: Salads are really cheap and good too.
