Pornstar name changes

How and why do they do this? I mean, once you've built a reputation, what reasoning could you give for changing the name that's gained you so much notoriety? For instance Lana Lotts to Ava Lauren...WHY? Can anyone shed some light on this subject? not just generalized answers....like a case by case basis. :dunno:

Hmm...glad someone brought this up. I have in the past seriously considered the name Ava Lauren if I have a ********...good to know it's a pornstar name.

In a lot of cases I wouldn't be surprised if it was for legal reasons. It could be a case of somebody or some corporation holding the rights to that name combined with their image. To make things simpler and avoid any battles they might just decide to go with something else. Another reason I think things like that could happen is that somebody they have worked for in the past has pissed them off but they are still making money off of their previous work, so to spite them they could try to change their name so there is less of a possibility they will help them out in any way to bring in customers or cash to somebody they had a falling out with. If people used a search engine on their old name they might go to sites they have worked with in the past and that would help the people they don't like anymore. Also, it could very well be they just want to start fresh and change their image. I do find it irritating how they change their names all the time though.

My guess is that she rarely did Male/Female pronography as Lana Lotts.

Now she apparently is doing Male/Female pornography more often and wants a seperate name for that new stage of her career.

That's true as well. Remember the Mariah Carey/Mary Carey uproar?

I'm not just thinking of Lana/Ava though...there's got to be more and more reasons why. Sorry, I just think this is a very fascinating topic.

Some performers don't put a lot of thought in their name when they first start out in the biz. Once they gain a degree of popularity, it becomes necessary to have a moniker befitting their new found status.
