Negro? That's how they call them here in Spain :dunno

yeup negro means black in spanish, but is also the N word in my country :yesyes:
anyway that thread is very stupid, like do you gonna said, hey black dude what time is it? lol

in all seriousness, if you really feel the need to address people of different racial heritages differently than others then you need to do some self examination...people are people

Whatever you do, don't you the 'N' word. They hate that, as calling them 'Nice' can interfere with their cred something shocking. They have a rep to uphold. WORD.

Its ok to call the whites the C, H or R word though. Crazy, Ho' Republican.

If you need to label anyone else, just ask. Oh wait, sarcasm doesn't translate via text does it?

Sir and Ma'am seem to work pretty well for all races. :dunno:

Side note: most of the Black students I teach hate the term African American. They prefer Black.

In Italy isn't the proper way to call them Mulignan? Italy only. In England it's African-American again.
[Urban Dictionary]
Molignon: Derived from Italian dialect word for "eggplant". ... also a slang term used in place of ****** ... an epithet for black people, primarily used by Italian-Americans.
As we all know Italians just LOVE the darker skinned races...

Gotcha. I get called Onion Head because of my shaved head. Time to petition the Urban Dictionary to let them know how outraged I've been the whole time.

I don't know anyone who uses that term unless it's in reported speech. In England we say "black." Apart from the racists, who have their own collection of terms, obviously.

It's a fucking stupid phrase, because you have no idea if there is any African heritage involved at all if you're just saying "look at the hat that African-American chap is wearing." They could be fifth generation Chicagoan whose family originally came from Jamaica or bloody anything with no ties to Africa at all.

well that is spanish for the color black after all..not sure it'd go over well. maybe if zdenka acted really ignorant they might just smile and laugh at him

So you are saying that racism is not about words, it is about intentions. I like that.
So Zdenka, call them however your English language knowledge and your good faith suggest you to and if they get offended send them to fuck off or call them racist. You don't have to be liked by all the blacks out there, like you are not liked by all the whites and yellows and reds. There are a lot of intelligent black people out there who can discern good from bad intentions behind words pretty well. I say that should be your target of people to socialize with, no matter their "race".
Good luck and enjoy the trip.

I know. I think the term African-American is silly because they wouldn't know how to call their cousins in France or England or somewhere else. I want a World without hyphens. If I used that term on anyone I would reserve it for my gym buddy from Ghana who's lived in America for about 10 years. If I called him that he'd probably grin and wonder why I was being so formal.

Agreed on "context, not words" re : racism. Zdenka, I suggest you greet every black person you meet by calling them "Negrito" ten times. They'll love it.
