Police: Jobless father kills family, self

From CNN:

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- A man distraught because he could not find work shot and killed his mother-in-law, his wife and three sons and then killed himself inside a home in an upscale San Fernando Valley neighborhood, police said.
Authorities said the man had an MBA in finance but appeared to have been unemployed for several months and had worked for major accounting firms, such as Price Waterhouse, police said.

Signs of things to get worse and come...

The dude killed his wife, three sons and mother-in-law...not having a job was the least of his problems.

Just another media spin, trying to make the "financial crisis" look a lot worse than what it is.

IMO if you are going to take your life because is so miserable just do that, take your own! Leave other people live theirs or at least get some life insurance that doesn't get voided when you comitt suicide and blast yourself and leave the money to your family....(In no way am I advocating suicide).

I thought she didn't actually kill herself.

She didn't. Her neighbor pretty much saved her and the mortgage company forgave her mortgage so she could continue to live in the place.

Come on, Chef. Media spin? Now you're sounding like Bill O'Reilly at his worst.

Whether the old woman actually succeded or not this is something we agree on 100%.Expect as theis economy gets worse which all analysis says it will for some time to come this will occur more. It's not due to media hype but the reality of how rough it is getting.People who can't understand this need to watch a movie like "Grapes of wrath" about how tough life was for people in the depression of the 1930s.You have desperate people who see no way out of the situation they face. But the guy at Lehman bros thinks he deserved the hundreds of millions he got off of helping to bring about this current situation.Like the 30s maybe we will get a crime wave with modern day Dillingers robbing the banks who are seen as being the people responsible for much of the desperate times. It was nice the mortgage company forgave the old womans mortgage if thats true but unless that becomes the norm which I can't see how it can I think more people will take regretable desperate actions to shield them and their familys from hardship.Thats why we need leadership along the lines of an FDR that offers people hope that at least the leadership see's the plight of such people and is trying to respond.

Perharps some strong religious values could have come in handy in this case and not the sad adoration that there is in this country for materialistic things. If I can't keep my 42" HDTV or ps3 I or can't get used to downgrade my upscale lifestyle to one that fits my current jobless situation I simply can't go on with life attitude. It getting suckier out there but this is the time to simply hang tight and kick in survival mode not giving up mode. There are more to material things in this world.

That's what it is though. The dude was psycho enough to murder his FAMILY and then kill himself and for some reason it's not "father kills family", it's "JOBLESS father kills family". :dunno:

They're blatantly bringing the "financial crisis" into the situation when it shouldn't be. The guy was a piece of shit who couldn't handle his business and he took it out on his family by murdering them. But, they somehow try and force the fact that he was...

...unemployed for several months and had worked for major accounting firms, such as Price Waterhouse.

I can guarantee if he was an out of work garbage man, they wouldn't have even mentioned it. But, since he's an out of work accountant who worked for major financial/accounting firms, such as PW, they put it in the very beginning of the story. It's like they're trying to blame the "financial crisis" for the tragedy, when, in all reality, the dude was just a piece of shit.

Yeah I agree, the news media never tries to persuad the reader towards a cetain point of view.
Lets get serious now.

Chef is exactly right.
Fear sells
Blame the murders on the financial crisis, blame the financial crisis solely on Bush.
Brilliant!!!!

Look at California, they are 18 billion dollars in the red.
Who can we blame?
Certainly not the 10 billion dollars spent on social programs each year, or the 7 billion spent on welfare, or the 15+ billion spent on illegal immigration in various forms.
Does the news media tell us about that? Not very often.

I agree, its not like the media to use an existing story and try to find one litle detail even if it is the tiniest little thing and spin it out of perportion just to make this fit in with the flavour of the month.

I expect alot more of these stories, "Mother kills handicaped daughter because she couldnt afford to keep her" for example, and maybe she couldnt keep her, but any sane rational person tries to deal with their problem not kill their nearest and dearest in an attempt to make their finantial status better, thats just ludicrious. She was obviously insane to begin with and so was this guy.

Chef does have a point.

You just dont go off killing a bunch of people because you cant find work? and you mean to tell he couldnt get a job flipping burgers or serving tables at apple bee's?

Obviously this guy was a major pshyco or had some very major problems if he resulted to murdering his family.

Eh, it's a little overreactionary.. but when the economy comes tumbling down the murder/suicide rate will probably skyrocket. I'll tell ya this.. if I hear any of my neighbors committing tha suicide, I'm taking all their food and expensive stuff! :p

More fear mongering from the Communist News Network.

Why couldn't this guy just take his own life? Sick, sick, world.

Chef is right that there is a spin in this story, but there a grain of truth to the spin as well. I think the case is that mentally unstable people are just one properly (or improperly, as the case may be) placed trigger away from these type of drastic actions.

The way I break it down is this. Our poor economic situation MAY HAVE caused this man's unemployment, which MAY HAVE caused his rampage. But all across the country, countless other people, at the same time, HAVE been led by OTHER things to go on rampages of their own. Suicides and murderous rampages happen at the country's best of times and it's worst of times.

However, when there is an increase in the strains affecting the American public, I wouldn't be surprised to see a corresponding moderate increase in wacked-out activity.

Money was invented sometime in BC period and capitalism was formed in 19th century but mankind has been here for more than 3 million years. So, being jobless is not an excuse for this terrible event.

I have had times when i have no money in my wallet or am completely hopeless but i didn't kill my sister and mom.

Think rational, hope is always with us, opportunities are there waiting to be seen by us. I know it's touchy but i live like that and i am very happy.
