It stinks that he was allowed to travel to his chalet at Gstaad many times in recent years. Why did they arrest him just now? Rumors have it that Polanski's arrest might be part of a deal between Switzerland and the USA over the UBS tax havens.

Since sex crimes don't expire in America, it's okay to arrest and extradite him - but why now when he was able to travel freely for 30 years? :dunno:

^^I find the whole sorry saga quite puzzling myself; the interim between charges (as you say, 30 odd yrs ago) and what we see unfolding now...there's got to be more to this (still think Chinatown is a superb film).

Don't know what happened, but I'll say that it wouldn't surprise me that he did it, nor that many of the "chic" crowd in Hollywood is defending him.

I don't think there's much question as to whether he did it or not. He claims the judge was preparing to go back on a plea agreement (not sure how he could know that) so he fled.

I've seen a few people out there defending him but the way I see it is he owes the state some time.:dunno:

I don't care what's happened behind the scenes...if the effect is one less fugitive is escaping justice....that's a good thing IMO.

A child only gets one chance to be innocent and if you rob a child of that you deserve to be punished...even if it's 30 years later.:2 cents:

This isn't related to this particular story, but I have many friends that work in Hollywood and you wouldn't believe some of the kinky and degenerate shit that some of these celebrities are into. Nuff said.

#1 - Polanski should pay for this crime and do the required time.
#2 - In hindsight, Polanski should of had a better lawyer. Then he never would of fled the country like many [pedo] scumbags tend to do.

:2 cents:

He should go to prison. If this was a murder charge and he fled the country for 30 years only now to be finally caught there wouldn't be any question. He should go to prison.

I liked his movie The Fearless Vampire Killers. No movie in todays horror genre has the sort of atmosphere that movie had.

Search buttin, this is already being covered.

The sad thing is that even if he gets extradited, he is probably looking at less than a couple of months time.

Not likely. He's already been convicted. If the DA wants to bring him in after 30 years, he's not gonna just slap the guy on the wrist and tell him that what he did was bad. He's gonna throw everything he can at the guy. I'm sure the DA is probably up for re-election and wants to show the people that he can get things done and that he's not soft on criminals. My guess is that, given Polanski's age, they'll give him 10-15 years.

Apparently the victim is one of the people who think the whole thing should be dropped now because it is causing her to be in the spotlight again which she doesn't want.

Still, does that mean he should just walk away even though he committed this crime?

This is also making Hollywood look bad by defending someone who plead guilty to raping a 13 year old. If he wasn't a director or famous at all and you asked these people if just some regular guy was found guilty of raping a 13 year old and he fled the country for 30 years and then was caught, they would feel the exact opposite and say he should answer for his crimes. This is really a low point for these people, it's not all of them but some. I was really disappointed to hear Martin Scorcese defend him just because he is a good director. I'll say he is a brilliant director but just because he is should that give him a get out of jail card? This is where it really shows that some of those people actually think they deserve more rights and privileges than the average person. They can really go fuck themselves

As I've said before though if you haven't seen The Pianist do so now!

It's not her call to make.

I hope you are right, but from all I have heard discussed on the news shows, it seems he will get off lightly.

He is going to get a pass from Clinton, but I don't think he will ever come back to America.
