Makes sense.
Not to denigrate all things conservative, but liberals are primarily responsible for most of the landmark societal progress we've made as a nation from its inception.
End of slavery. End of child labor. Women's suffrage. Civil Rights Acts, etc.
Bodie's correct in saying most of what actually made America great falls on liberals - but I firmly have no faith in the Democratic party to get anything done. They're next to useless. They're next to useless and then try to take credit for what activists on the ground achieved entirely independent of the party (like putting the fear of god into representatives who thought it'd be cool to take away their healthcare).
Good point. People always bring up how Democrats in the 60s opposed civil rights but it's important to remember that they were conservatives. We often mix up party affiliation with political ideology. The two aren't the same. Just because you're liberal doesn't mean you're a Democrat. Just because you're conservative doesn't mean you're a Republican. I usually say liberal or conservative rathe than Democrat or Republican.
This isn't an accident; this is intentional propaganda. Today's conservatives don't own anything 'good' ("I’ve been in this job eight years, and I’m wracking my brain to think of one thing our party has done that’s been something positive, that’s been something other than stopping something else from happening." - Representative Tom Rooney of Florida), so they intentionally muddle up the past to claim the work of liberals in the past - who just happened to be in a different party than they are today.
Oh man what a crock. Liberals don't have a RACIST PAST to atone for.
That's all on your philosophical brethren. Own it indeed, because they have certainly earned it for you.
It's sometimes hard to figure out if someone like BC is intentional in his deceptive revisionism, or a useful idiot. But considering every time he tries to claim today's Republican party owns the achievements of the Republican party of the past, these claims are immediately debunked, I have to go with useful idiot. A true believer. And I know by using the word 'idiot', that may be dismissed instantly as insulting, but I use it with a very specific meaning: An uncritical consumer and regurgitator of a narrative, useful to those essentially making money from said narrative.
