Ohio man sues co-workers for share of lottery cash

An Ohio man who missed his weekly work lottery pool while out injured is suing his co-workers for a share of the $99 million jackpot.

Edward Hairston, a logistics agent at the KraftMaid company, says that every month for the last five years he entered $5 into a lottery pool with his co-workers.

Unfortunately for him, while Hairston was recovering from a back injury and unable to make his payments, the group won the Aug. 5 Mega Millions drawing.

When Hairston tried to collect his winnings, he found the other members had kicked him out.

Hairston's lawyer tells The Plain Dealer newspaper that the group had an unwritten policy to cover for colleagues who were unable to pay due to illness or vacation.

Was the injury so great, he was unable to contact one of his co-workers in order for him to put in the 5 bucks? Dude needs to get back on with his life. His sad, pathetic life.

Oh, and fuck you, Ohio.

Simple.He didn't pay,so no way.It's like where I work,we do the lotto
and euromillions. Then there are a couple of tight fisted twats who won't
pay their way,but I'm sure if we did win. Then they would be the first ones
up to get their share.....I don't think so :noway:

All I know is he was out sick.

Let's leave Ohio out of this. There are many worse places to live.

Sucks for him, but legally, no way he deserves a cut.

If I was a winner, I'd give him a little, but that's my generosity, not his right.

I guess the way things go these days he will be successful in his crusade.

Fuckin way she goes, init.

No.
He does have a legitimate case.
If they really did agree to "cover for colleagues who were unable to pay due to illness or vacation" then then that's it.
He wins, or t least is in the right.
The problem is getting them to admit it, which is probably na ga happen.
Then again depending on how many people are involved , one or so of them might admit it under oath if subpoenaed.

Now i just read that he hadn't paid into the lottery pool for 3 months prior to the win.
fuck him then.

I agree. If I'd been working with someone for ages I couldn't cut them out just like that. But if they'd been out for 3 months. :dunno: and then they sue!! Screw them.

Yeah, 3 months without weighing in is a bit much.

No.

I had a Lotto Pool with some friends / neighbours some years ago.

We decided to put up a little contract that settled the paying and the splitting of any sum of money won etc.

He should have done that.

He's suing because they (his coworkers) basically told him to go to hell. You would think that 22 of them would just have the good will to each give up $100 or $50K, but whatever.

eeeeshhhhhh. I do understand what you're saying, but the guy doesn't really have a legal case, whatsoever. His coworkers may be total fucking asshats, but they won't ever be ****** to give this guy anything.

I'm not saying it's good, I'm just saying they're going to win.

I agree. It's on them, and it seems they are a greedy bunch. If in fact he was part of this group for 8 years. Then again it he didn't answer the emails they sent him, his luck is ****.
