"Offensive"

Seriously this is the dumbest thing I've heard. They weren't bothering anybody.. its not like they were burning the Mexico flag.. I mean shit.. We've lost more of our own rights in OUR own damn Country.

I don't give a shit what day it is. If you're living in the United States of America then the American flag comes before all other flags. If you don't want to see it then move the fuck out.

I realize this happened in San Francisco, but this is absolutely ridiculous. I highly doubt any students of other countries of origin (Mexicans and latin Americans included) would ever be made to take off symbols of their national pride, regardless of the day. Now we're giving deference to individuals who feel "disrespected" by symbols of America, in America? Wow.

And correct me if I'm worng here, but I don't even think a majority of Mexicans in Mexico even celebrate the 5th of May, its not Mexican independence day, as most Americans are content to believe. I'm pretty sure that Mexican independence day is sometime in the middle of September, and the 5th of May only represents a small, historically insignificant victory of the Mexican militia over the French in the 1800s in the state of Puebla. I'm pretty positive that the only people outside of the US that celebrate May 5th, are the people of the state of Puebla, and therefore I really can't accede to the concept that May 5th is a "celebration of Mexican heritage" as the story puts it. And now I'm beginning to wonder if the......even realize the significance, and the history behind the day?

it didnt happen in SF. if it did, the article would have been for the teachers. fuckin Chronicle

Just noticed that I misread that. It was a SF news outlet that was reporting the story, whoops. Though, I believe Morgan Hill, CA is only 65 or so miles from SF, either way I digress.

What's funny is that 3 out of the 5 guys who were reprimanded actually have a Mexican ethnic background themselves! :1orglaugh

The vice Principal should have consulted with his higher up principal before acting, at least that's how I see it.

This happened every year of my high school career. I don't think it's offensive, but it makes you look like a major jackass.

I have no problem with the school's decision. In case anyone has been asleep the last 2 years or 2 months, relations between Americans and Mexicans and Mexican-Americans are probably at the low point in our nation's history. Large groups of white people have decided to blame immigrants for their personal misery. :dunno:

It's time to initiate school uniforms at public school and then there won't be any clothing issues.

It says that a group of Mexican-American students were protesting and saying to respect their heritage. Well that's all well and good and your heritage should be respected but if you're Mexican-American, meaning you were probably born in the United States, then the American flag is your flag.

The low point in our nation's history? Who knew it was 1848 already! Some Mexicans threw a few empty water bottles at cops. Was Santa Anna was leading the charge?

I'd say that you're ridiculous, but it's quite clear what you are now. You're just the Will E Worm of the other sides. Saying any dumb thing to be the outrageous contrarian. I bet you don't even believe in half of the shit you say.

What happened to you America? You guys used to be such badasses.

:dunno:

And "offensive" behaviour is so subjective, when did that become a standard?? Morality, legality, sure, but offending someone is pretty much an every day occurrence in a "FREE" society.

High school right?
don't high schools normally have an American flag on a pole flying?
did they remove it that day?

if students cannot wear a flag on their shirt on that day, then in that case no american flags should be flown anywhere in the country.
and if that, then no english be spoken either.
why stop there?

but i would have took off the shirt.
took it off, rolled it up and strangled the principal with it.
then drag him into the hall, pulled down his pants, then shoved one of those fucking little classroom american flag poles in his ass.
